Former Southwest Missouri State Bear Blake Ahearn called up to NBA

Blake Ahearn was signed to a 10 day contract by the Miami Heat. Ahearn was averaging close to 20 points per game in the NBA Development League, but had averaged 29 points over the last 15 games.

The Miami Heat are so bad, maybe they will actually give Ahearn a chance to play.

They need shooters and that is what he is. I'm not surprised, the guy can play and he has decent size. Good luck Blake.

Blake didn't do to shabby of a job in his NBA debut tonight. In 7 minutes of action he scored 5 points, picked up a board and dished out 3 assists along with a turnover. No fouls, steals or blocks.

This is no knock on Blake Ahearn, but if he can make the league so can Jeremy Crouch. JC is bigger, just as good of an outside shooter, and has a much more well-rounded game offensively. If I were JC I would see this as a reason to perhaps seriously pursue a pro career before going into coaching.

Cool. I didn't know that. I live in the Florida area, so I'll likely get lots of chances to see him on TV. Still not reason enough to get me to actually go to a game. :)

The Miami Heat are desperate. I think most of their bench is full of D-leaguers. Because of Shaq's contract, they just couldn't keep some of their good role-players and shooters like James Posey or Jason Kapono.

And it's ridiculous how many players are side-lined because of injuries: D-Wade, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem, Alonso Mourning.

are most of those guys injured, or are there concerns that the Heat are, to put it nicely, not trying their hardest to win so they get the #1 draft pick?

Both, I think. The inuries are/were real, but I think they recognize that there's no point in someone playing through the injury at this point in the season. So, they shut some of these guys down to let them get 100% for next season. Riley's not even coaching. He's supposed to be scouting at the NCAA games, probably drooling at Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose.

You may be right, but Ahearn is much quicker. I think JC should go to Europe and earn some nice money for a while before coaching. He is made for what they do over there.

Ahearn has changed his game quite a bit in the D-league, plus Ahearn is playing the point a lot.

I think you've slightly overated JC, Ahearn was a two-year all-conference player who was the heart and sole for two pretty good SMS squads.

I guess I lost some respect for his JC's "all-around" game when the team pretty much sucked whenever Ruffin wasn't playing.

Have you watched the way JC has played the last month? It's about as good a stretch any Bradley player has played in recent years.

I was unaware that Ruffin wasn't playing in the last few games?

I guess I just would've liked to have seen him put the team on his shoulders when Ruff was out before I annointed him an NBA prospect.

Jeremy Crouch has carried this team all season and all last season. When Ruffin was out Crouch almost single handedly carried the team. If I were an NBA scout, I would want a player like Crouch to be on my team. I don??™t know of a better spot up shooter in the MVC the past couple of years. Since JC has mastered the ability to take the ball to the hoop in recent weeks, he is the ultimate triple threat. Being a fan of the Boston Celtics, I would love to see JC the league in the next couple of years.

I just don't think that the ability to carry a college team is what an NBA team looks for when they fill spots at the end of their bench. Their looking for guys that fill needs, like a perimeter defender that can help them guard guys like Kobe and Lebron, or good shooters that can help them spread the floor in certain situations. The entire team was befuddled when Ruffin was out with his injury, so I don't think it's fair to criticize JC for not stepping up. I'm not arguing that JC is going to make the NBA, because I don't think he will, I just don't think the right argument is that he didn't step up when Ruffin was out.

The more I watch TJ Ford at Toronto, the more I think DR can make the league.

Are you kidding me Dallas? No way Ruff compares to TJ Ford. In fact, I think he has been outplayed by every "marquee" guard he's faced all season.

If I recall JC was hurt then and most of the season. He's just now getting healthy and starting to play like last season (except he handles the ball and drives to the hoop much better). Those CBI announcers loved him and were saying how he's one of the greatest players at Bradley since Hersey Hawkins (of course, I think they forgot about Anthony Parker).

I'm glad I am not the only one who has noticed this. Ruff gets burnt on defense time and time again. Sure, he picks a pocket or two a game, but other good PGs go around sometimes at will. A friend of mine pointed this out to me last year and this year I have made it a point to watch, and sure enough he was right.

I agree completely. Like the rest of our team defensively, Ruffin plays well in spurts.
