FOX Sports: Berruh is out

Big mistake. How exactly is it going to be one of the most sought-after jobs in America? I love the MVC and think we've made great strides nationally in the past few years, but when is any MVC job 'one of the most sought after in America'? MSU isn't even the marquee job of the MVC.

Be careful what you wish for MSU.

This is unfortunate as it was not his fault that they did not go to the ncaa tour. as they should have gotten at least 2 at large bids; at least he will go somewhere that he feels more appreciated as he will get another job.

The MVC seems to be a great stepping stone to a BCS school.
There are a bunch of D1 conferences worse than the MVC.
A MVC coaches job in a program that just spent $$$ for a new arena is more attractive to many "lower" coaches, as well as a very attractive option to many BCS assistants.

So, yes, there are better jobs than MSU. But those better jobs would have a smaller canidate pool than MSU will have, thus making MSU a more attractive, realistic option to more coaches and assistants ...

Which job in MVC would you say is the Marquee job? I am guessing you were probably not thinking Evansville.

I would put Creighton and SIU as the marquee jobs in the conference right now, based on their recent success. Resources-wise, the state schools would probably come higher in status than the private schools, although places like CU and BU might be an exception to that because of their great fan support an attendance (which usually means the dollars to compete with the state schools). However, that's not always the case, as evidenced by BU's lack of facilities for the last 20+ years.

The Shockers pay well. Turgeon was making at least $750,000+++++

I'm surprised they would fire him before the tournament is even finished. Sure, you can have no intention of keeping him after it's all said and done.

However, let the players enjoy their final game or games without having to deal with this now.

I'm in agreement and the booster finally got his way! Unless they are ready to shell out millions a big name coach is not going there! BH is a very good coach and I'd suspect his recruiting would have improved with the new facilities. In all honesty though who wants to play down there? Maybe we can pick him up as an assistant until he get's another offer because he will.

Kinda what I was thinking and you beat me to it.

Maybe EB takes a HC job somewhere creating an opening? ;)

That's ashame. He was a great ambassator for the Valley, and a great coach to boot. Yes, it was not his fault that they got jobbed two years in a row by the NCAA Tournament committee.

As stated by others, be careful what you wish for MSU fans. Six subpar seasons later, you'll be BEGGING for Barry to come back!

If Berruh doesn't get another coaching job somewhere, his personality would be great for a TV commentator. Or maybe the Valley could hire him as a PR guy. Just a great ambassador for the league.

So Bradley picks up another former MVC head coach for its staff? Maybe we should see if Porter Moser's happy where he's at? That'll take care of the past couple years, right?

Don't get me wrong, I think Berruh is a great guy and a good coach, but I can't imagine that BU is a logical destination for him at this point in his career. He should land on his feet somewhere.

Speaking of San Francisco, won't they have an opening?

Higher ups at Missouri State say people have no right to speculte on this...
but it's all over....

Here were Barry's press conference words...

"This is a business,” said Hinson, 47. “I realize that. … I had the privilege to work for a university I love and admire. I work for a president that does a great job for our university who I also admire and respect.

“......... If this comes to fruition, which it very well may, my president and my athletic director are not the bad guys. It’s not their fault. I had a chance to coach here for nine years, and like Harry Truman said, ‘The buck stops here.’ And I was unable to deliver this program an NCAA Tournament in nine years, and the buck stops with me.

“Fans have to vent, and I rather them vent at me than our players.”

Wow, what a really admirable guy.....I really wish the best for Barry, and hope he catches on elsewhere.
Maybe even at some where close like WIU, EIU, Missouri-Kansas City, or SEMO
