Free Throw Shooting

Coachdude...as a former coach, what makes you lean towards reality?

Again, there is no statistical evidence that showed Bradley suffered from a shooting standpoint not practicing in Carver Arena. There is no statistical evidence that shooting percentages vary based on where games are played (not when there is a big enough sample).

Coaches THINK alot of things...however, they aren't based on any actual data.

Busch...I think part of the homecourt advantage is the crowd...but when you play on a familiar court I believe it makes a difference...I am not talking night and day difference here...I am not a statistics guy...but I guess one could look those things up and prove or disprove what I am saying...no big deal either way...

I always shot better on my home court...used to hang out at Franklin Grade school and play hoops back in the day...loved those hoops during the summer...

I know this isnt directly related to BU, but in the tip off marathon on ESPN right now West Virginia is only 8-15 from the line in the first half. Thats barely 50%. I have kind of noticed a slight dip in free throws at all levels of college basketball over the past few years. Dont know what factors into it and its just an observation on my part so I dont know if it has any merit

Guys, I'm not arguing that many factors don't play into FT's. I am always amazed how every kid can't hit at least 70%.

I'm also not trying to make any excuses. All I am saying is this. On Sunday, both teams had guys miss more on one end of the floor. Just seemed odd to me.

Same players, in the same game. On one end they fell, on the other then rattled and popped out. No more, no less. I just found it interesting.

Good point. What makes those really athletic, fast paced teams good? Having one or two really great outside shooters. ....

...yeah -- too bad we can't steal one of the Illini's solid, experienced PG's who thus far is one of their leading scorers,
and who is hitting 50% from the field, 43% from 3-pt, and one of their leaders in assists AND A/T Ratio!
Not to mention since this a FREE THROW THREAD....a 90% FT shooter.... ;)

'T' you went from the post of the year to this -1 post. You spell out what we need and I agreed then your post and last time I checked He didn't want to be here. He wouldn't even give Geno a chance. sorry this one rates a -1 . We will make do with the people who want to be here. I thought you wanted to put all this to rest yet YOU keep bringing it up. I don't get it.

I think you are wrong here - inside info argues otherwise
but it is irrelevant -- I am talking about what we need not by name but by the type of player --

Ahh, the inside info angle :)

Sam Maniscalso chose not to finish his career at Bradley. That was his decision. If Coach Ford were to chose guys NOT to be here I am sure Sam wouldn't have been his first choice to go ;)

This is a process that will take some time. Sam maybe helps this particular team win a few more games this year but as a 5th year senior he would be taking developmental minutes from guys like Walt, Donivine and Jalen. I prefer them to be playing the minutes Sammy would have played. I'm not worried about going from 10-13 wins this season, I am worried about the long term development of the program.

Well the one guy who went 1-8 on the night missed all his on the good end, but made his only 1 on the bad rim.

Yes....and for Bradley, DSE/JE were 5-5 at the "bad" end and JP/SS/JC were 5/14.

On the "good" end, TB/DSE/JE were 12-14. We'll never know for sure, but I'd bet JP/SS/JC wouldn't have shot much better at this end than they did at the other end of the floor.

If you can make freethrows, the rim and arena should not matter! We happen to have some players that don't make freethrows on a regular basis.

I said this after the Parkside game but I am convinced it holds true for the UMKC game...
if they kept a +/- like they do in ice hockey then the +/- on Donivine would again be positive

They do keep it. See Shaunguth's post.

What about the visitors?
