From the Shockers' website

I hate promotions that involve the final score, because it ultimately leads to garbage like this happening. No place for it in basketball.

That being said, I think WSU is definitely making way to much of an issue. If I was on that side of the fence, I would have a little bit of a beef but it would pass quickly (I've seen this sort of situation happen with other teams I've rooted for). Heck, it really didn't seem like CR put much effort into the shot at all (though he is a D-I basketball player who was unguarded).

So it was definitely not a shot that should have been taken, but it's also not a huge issue in my mind. I agree with those who have said that Marshall has bigger fish to fry, and that the classlessness of his remarks towards CR far exceeds the classlessness of CR taking the shot.

Marshall is just a whiner and complainer. He never seems satisfied with any call made by an official, much like the former coach at UNI. The last second shot by CR just gave him something else to complain about, which seems to be his preference in life.

Grow up Coach Marshall. I think he owes an apology to CR and BU for his childish behavior!

I have to defend JL on this one. He is probabley as upset with CR as Marshall, he knows bb etiquette an demonstrates a lot of class. It is however a mark against him in the view of our opponents and his critics...

What I saw was similar to your discussion, he was doing a lot of yelling at officials and his own players.
Occasionally he would turn to one of his assistants and ask what happened on the floor, because he would miss stuff.

I saw no problem with the effort of the Wichita players, but their offense left some to be desired. They just don't seem to ever cut or pass with the intent of creating better shots. They rely on individual players' athleticism to get their points, and against a good, well prepared defense they will struggle to score.

Their offense was bad probably because their players are so nervous about making mistakes. Bob Knight could get away with that behavior for years because his teams won, he graduated most of his players and he ran a clean program. And the "screamer" type coaches work well with some players who may have discipline problems who need someone like this to kick them into shape. However, the best coaches adapt to the different types of personalities that make up their team.

I don't agree that the "military" approach does not work anymore because we live in a different era. However, I do think coaches need to disipline players based on effort and not because they feel they have to run their team like a boot camp. Good coaches lay into the players if they don't give a good effort, but they also encourage players when the effort is good. I think Les demonstrates this perfectly. When his team "dogs" it, he will be the first to admit that the effort was not there.

Now to tie this into Marshall's crying and moaning last night, he took his displeasure out on the wrong people, plus he did not have the decency to let things go because he acted like a spoiled kid who did not get his dessert! He's got bigger problems to deal with like trying to keep his team out of the cellar this year. I don't think screaming at one of our players, even if this player was wrong, is what he should be doing. That was a classless act, and an absolute violation of decorum that will not be forgotten by our players and coaches if we end up playing them again in the Valley tournament.

Chris Roberts took a 30 ft. shot at the end of the game because the crowd was yelling for him to shoot, it went in and because of that I will be eating a nice steak dinner at the Lariat , he didn"t show anybody up as it was not a dunk or a layup, why make such a big deal about it when we all know that he will be told not to do it again by his coach.

A big deal is made because people have such an inferiority complex that they feel the need to find something relatively unimportant to harp on to deflect from the focus of the argument (another loss, in this case).

Too little accountability these days. I'd hope we wouldn't stoop to that level on here ... harping about every little thing that outside programs do wrong ... losing streaks ... etc ... OH WAIT ... ;-)

Everyone wants to cut down the guy on top ... which except to the fans in Cedar Falls, we are!

Are 'points' scored used in Tie Breakers?

Are 'points' scored used in Tie Breakers?

Don't much care about Chris's shot - but here are a few thoughts - #1 we are such poor shooter's I doubt too many people expected it to go in, #2 we will enjoy our 'free' dinner at Kouri's this week especially after missing last weeks by 1, and #3 in case of ties at the end of the 18 game season are 'scored points' used to determine tie breakers?

Not sure!

Let me preface this by saying I didn't see the game. I can only go off the play by play in the Gamecast thingy.

If WSU's coach was so interested in ending the game, then why did his players launch a 3 and crash the boards in the last possession where the shot clock was off? Couldn't they have just dribbled it out? I am not condoning the last second BU bucket, but it seems silly to blow it out of proportion.

Also, in early references to fouling to extend the games that are lost but not blowouts, I can make one analogy. Do opposing fans and coaches get angry at the other team for running their 2-minute offense in football down by 2 touchdowns instead of taking 3 knees? Yeah, they aren't going to come back, but it may be beneficial to gain some confidence in that area of the game.

No, ties are broken by a points system the Valley uses. I have a spreadsheet that calculates all of this data. Very interesting formula, definitely.

The only thing more obnoxious in Wichita than the WSU fan base is Gregg Marshall. I've always questioned Greg's with 2 G's.

Part of me hopes that Mr Roberts told him what he could do and where he could do it.

Chris is way too nice and classy a kid to have said anything to him.

You are right on Coach. Chris is an extremely polite, congenial young man.
I hope he does not take the ravings of an irrational coach, who's team just got demolished, personally.
Any Coach that would verbally chastise or physically assault an opposing teams player is a big fat "0" in my book.
I am just sorry, I do not have the time to get my free Steak,

Betsy and I will eat yours Grassman...sorry you can't enjoy the fruits of Roberts labor. Come on guys..lets come clean. We all know JL set up that final play. Rub some salt in the Shockers wounds for wearing those God awful Gold road unis vs the much better black.

Is Marshall a moron...it had NOTHING to do with him or the Shockers. I agree with Mo, Run your OWN team and let JL manage his.

I hope we don't but I wouldn't mind the league hearing about his confrontation with CR. GM is lucky it didn't escalate.....what a fool.

Chris is a good young man and coach Marshall must have went off the deep end confronting him after the game , he should be the one telling Chris he is sorry.

When I started this thread...

When I started this thread...

When I started this thread I did not want to create any controversy. I do not defend the WSU coach. His reaction as the game ended could have been heat of the moment.. but later he should just suck it up.

Nor do I think CR was trying to show up WSU.. he just got caught up in the moment. I am sure JL said something along the lines of "we don't do that" and that should be enough.

I do find it interesting though, that there are a significant number of responses based on hatred of the WSU program and the love of free food. In jest or not, I would have thought the overwhelming number of responses would say "Win With Class". I'd also be willing to bet that's what JL would say.

In your first post you said JL is earning a bad reputation. Now you say he would say 'Win With Class". Make up your mind, or are you now seeing how dumb your first post was?
