Games of Interest, Sunday 12/13- Illinois State loses at home to Niagara 76-68

Osiris was 5-18 for the game (2-11 from three). I guess that's better than 1-12 like he was last year against Niagara. :o

it was the little 5-10 guy who torched the nets for almost 30

Even the announcers noticed more than once that king o was late getting back or lost his man. :-o

Combined with his awesome showing from behind the arc (2-11), maybe king o cost his team this game against an average team playing without their best player?

Niagara 76
ILSU 68

Just a few thoughts from Disneyland-

A loss at home to the #135 RPI team....not good.

Resume' destroyer.

Where was POY candidate Osiris Eldridge?
Oh, that was him standing in the corner launching bad shots and letting the other 4 players play defense.

Better question- where were all their fans? The arena sounded like a morgue.

I wonder if their players were preoccupied with going undefeated this season?

How bad would ISU have lost if Niagara had Bilal Benn, their best player, leading scorer, and leading rebounder?

Not even so much losing at home as losing what could be your chance for your "best" non-conference win, which would not be very good anyway.

Oh well. Some things never change!

You forgot to mention that the mighty undefeated redbirds missed this opportunity while their opponent was playing without their best player! :?

But the ISU loss is also PROOF POSITIVE that the RPI is usually relevant and predictive...
as we knew all along that ISU was really a 150 RPI team, exactly where the formula for RPI put them, despite their pretty 7-0 record that had even some of the Top 25 voters fooled.

also it's just possible maybe OE was not feeling well...he might have had an off game..

I'll take Kansas by 20+ over Kansas State, St. John's, Washington, Western Carolina, VCU, and William & Mary. All those teams are ahead of them in the RPI. In fact, I'd take Kansas by double digits against all but a couple of the 20 teams ahead of them.

That's all I'll say about the RPI until February, at which point it will be much more realistic. For now, Sagarin and Pomeroy are far more accurate and predictive.

Watched the game yesterday, between switching back and forth for the Bears game, and ISU played well the first half as they pounded the ball inside. In the second half they went back to settling for poor three point shots. They simply got lazy. O seemed to be sleeping during most of the game. He had sloppy fouls and was very sluggish on D. Niagara made some half time adjustments and packed everything in the lane. They dared ISU to shoot over them and we all know how that worked...

They play like this come Valley time and you can drop them from the list of contenders.

Tough to complain about 6,000 considering school was out and the Bears were on against their rivals. Some here have a fetish with attendance. Give me 1000 loud, screaming hardcore fans over 5000 just coming in to watch the game any day. And I thought we were working on a tv deal up in Chicago. ISU has a decent deal with Comcast. At least 11 games on the tube, not counting the ESPN games. We should be able to get something.
