Genius coaching move!

I always used a sagging man to man zone. Baiheim used it at Syracuse a lot. Won a national championship with that zone.

Congrats to Coach Wardle for tying Coach Mo for most Valley wins!

We've had our moments of frustration this season, but maybe Coach W has gotten the max out of the current roster.
Gotta give the guy props at least for getting this team to 10-5.

And Thank YU for giving Kai a chance! He's got the most potential of all our bigs!

Been wishing for more zone all year
I like when we play zone too.....the things that frustrate me sometimes with BU's zones in the past are 2 things:
1. I feel like we overextend too much
2. We don't pay attention to the other teams personnel within the zone....we shouldn't necessarily treat all players the same..we jump or over extend the zone to a non shooter, just to get out of position to leave a wide open look for a good shooter...need to funnel the ball to the non shooters in the zone and force THEM to shoot

But it does cause confusion, slows down the offense, and stops our fouling sprees....tough to rebound out of it for a team that already struggles in that area.

I wouldnt mind seeing some more 3/4 court token pressure too...take some time off the shot clock, maybe get a few steals, and get the other team out of rhythm.....It was a great move after the free throws last night, and caused the 10 second violation.

IIRC, my favorite Braves team played a beautiful 1-2-2 zone. Trevor Trimpe playing at the top of the key was awesome - before the era of big guards, so having a big out there made it much more effective at the time.

Yeah that was fun to watch...trimpe "kicking" the ball all the time on that attempt to get it to the wing.

Something has to be said for Coach Wardle and his knack at pulling out OT wins.

That's 6 str8 wins in OT, spanning the last 2 seasons.
He's won 9 of the last 10 OT games BU has played.
Could be our guys are fresher...all the substitutions we all complain about lol

Haven't always liked it when we play zone because of our tendency to leave shooters wide open but that was as active in the zone we've been all year. Hope the guys learned something from that effort.

BU went to the zone late and in OT and it freaked out Belmont!

What a genius move by Brian Wardle
tried it again late in the game last night and it almost cost us as Daugherty hit two long 3's late in the game and
Kinzinger hit two & Klabo hit one in the final 10 min- but the zone till flustered them, as you could see them fumbling
their dribbles and passes again and again... both Alex & Jaquan picked pockets and scored on breakaways.

I wish there was a way for us to use the online stats pages to break down the scoring vs the zone vs the man-to-man, but I'm
pretty confident that our staff keeps such stats and that's what makes our guys so good. They are geniuses!
We don't have the biggest team, fastest team, most experienced team, best shooting team or best scoring team,
but we keep winning and are in 2nd place - so I think that should point towards who is the Coach of the Year.

One more thing---
if Bradley finishes and holds on to 2nd place it will be the 2nd highest finish (behind the MVC championship in 2023)
in the Brian Wardle era. In fact, it would also be the highest finish in the MVC for Bradley in 25 years since 2001(under Molinari).

I know we all want even more success, but kudos and thanks to our staff for their accomplishments.
