I guess where I don't like the substitute FT rule is if a guy like Jeremy Crouch gets hammered so badly that he cannot shoot FT's, the other coach can pick Zach Andrews to shoot the FT, thereby gaining the very advantage that the rule is meant to prohibit the FT-shooting team from getting!
Do you think that they put this rule in so a bad ft shooter gets hammered and the put the ft champ in to shoot....How many teams would be able to get their bad ft shooter fouled so bad they need to replace them?
See I'm think about it now... I don't know if I like it or not. Seems like a rule because of a situation or two that happened during the year
Well I dont need any time to think on this one... IMO this ft rule is terrible:!: The NCAA is rewarding the wrong coach/team by allowing the opposing coach to chose the player to shoot the freethrows.

Ben, I agree this is a terrible change. The coach of the injured player getting to choose would make a lot more sense. After all the other team fouled ,why should they get to pick. I can see situations late in a close game when a 80-90 % shooter gets whacked hard enough to leave and then their going to let the opposing coach pick the shooter. TERRIBLE RULE. They must have okayed that during happy hour.

The new RULE has been passed and will be in effect this fall...
no secondary defender can set up between the front of the rim and the backboard and be considered to have legal positioning.
In other words..no more charge calls under the hoop or close to the backboard...it will always be a defensive foul.
This applies to a defender who does NOT enter the area with the offensive player...
if the offensive player is being guarded by a primary defender, and the primary defender moves into the same area, then he can still get the charge call.
So this effectively prevents defenders from setting up and awaiting the contact to draw the charge (we should call this the VanDeGarde-rule)

to the NCAA,
create a square area that you cant take a charge in under the basket this way you can say your not copying things from the NBA and we as fans dont have to bitch about blown or questionable calls anymore...

Better refs in the MVC, yeah right. Thats not gonna happen until some governing body makes them accountable.
Im sure everyone remembers the last second tip in basket that was ruled illegal from this past season. Thats just one example of a horrible call. That was one awsome play that got whistled away.
One other observation, is it just me or does it seem like the MVC refs have a chip on their shoulder towards JL or what.

I don't think all refs are of the exact same mindset...but...
if you know very many refs, they do frequently have stong, non-yielding traits tot heir personalities...
..the only people who could possibly be successful in such a job are those who can withstand the stresses and pressures related to such a highly scrutinized performance and the nagging they constantly hear from coaches & fans.
In other words....about the only successful, long term refs have powerful, self-confident personalities which by nature tend to collide with other such powerful self-confident personalities as are seen in coaches.
I would doubt many refs have good, long term friendships with many D-I coaches....
I am very happy to hear of the implementation of the new rule regarding charge calls. I think it will help BU as we tend to guard the perminitor vs most valley teams who guard the interior. Where the rule seems a little gray to me is the defination of primary and secondary defender. ie on a breakaway when no one is on the ball and the trailing defender sets up in this area, or when a good player is being double teamed. I know all rules are gray to who ever the call goes against, just hope these call are made consistantly...
