He's Back

I am not speaking as any kind of expert, but I do not believe there is any way he would be cleared by doctors to play this season.JMO.

Kind of makes you wonder what is going on, hope in Taylors case he could play and for whatever reason was cleared by the medical staff, doubt he would be allowed to make this decision on his own as Bradley was the one requiring the test on all athletes so they more then likely would not let him play if he was not given an ok. by a doctor, what happened to the 3 month wait period?

Yeah, this would be nice, but I hope they keep him out until they know for sure everything is fine. We don't want any issues that his layoff was designed to eliminate in the first place. That would be devastating if anything bad happened for everyone involved.

And how far does the season have to progress for him to RS anyways?

A redshirt request is usually submitted after the season is over to strengthen the school's case that the player's injury was severe enough they could not have recovered and returned to playing.

Here is a link that explains the rules pretty well except for the last paragraph.-

The NCAA has changed the maximum number of games the athlete can play in to 30% of the schools scheduled games.-

TB can ask for a redshirt but his 5-year "clock" will run out at the end of next year (2011-2012) -- so what he needs is NOT a regular medical hardship/redshirt, what he'll need is a special 6th year waiver like Sam Singh got, and those come few and far between...

This might be irrelevant but does the type/severity of an injury have an factor in these waivers? Sam had a lingering knee injury. This is a much more serious issue if I'm not mistaken..at least it potentially could. I would say organ problems should get priority over knee ligaments.

The NCAA makes these waivers on a case-by-case basis. There have never been any defined criteria that the NCAA has said they use. Most cases have involved typical kids who took a redshirt year for an initial injury, but then suffered a second injury causing them to lose another year. But there have been cases involving losing the extra year due to a transfer before or after an injury/redshirt year.

....But there have been cases involving losing the extra year due to a transfer before or after an injury/redshirt year.

the only ones where a kid lost a year to transfer that I have ever seen then got a 6th year are the ones where a transfer occurred under special circumstances such as the discontinuation of the program where the kid was -- so he transferred or a scandal at the school or a concurrent injury....
The 6th year waiver seems to only be granted to a kid who loses two seasons due to issues that are outside of his control.
Academics, voluntary transfers, suspensions are considered within the athlete's control....go ask ISU's Tarise Bryson...

What it'll likely boil down to is whether TB can convince NCAA the reason he left juco was injury....if the records and documents can support that, then he has a chance.

One example is Missouri State's Spencer Laurie, who did get a 6th year but he was able to make the argument that in the year he transferred out of Missouri, he had an injury thuse NCAA accepted that.

Here is a thorough -- maybe more thorough than you'd want -
explanation of the NCAA rules regarding the allowance of a 6th year waiver...

First of all I do not think Taylor will be at Bradley after next season as he has stated before he wants to play pro ball which gives him more of a reason to try to play some this season if cleared , he may only have a chance to play min. amount of games but since he more then likely does not want to be here an extra season it doesn"t really matter on whether or not he could get another year.

This is what I'm thinking too, Real fan.
He will have to put in major work to catch up from months of not playing to have a stellar season next season to put him in position for being drafted in the NBA lottery. I think he has the talent - lacks height, but not skill.
It's my gut feeling that next season will be TB's last at BU if his heart-condition is o.k. to play.
Would be nice to have him come back for a couple Valley games and for the MVC Tourney. Most important is his overall health for the future though.

He's got a lot of work to do if he wants to play professional anything. He can muddle around Europe making mid to low 5 figures if he goes after this year. If he stayed and played against some real competition here in the states for a while longer, he could probably play at a higher level...in Europe.

Thanks, I meant more like if he could come back today or in a week or a month...would the coaches even want him to only play half the season? or would they prefer he stayed out and save 2 more full years.

I can't answer for the coaches, but I would think if he could come back and be healthy and productive, they would want him to return this year before the MVC games. I do not see it happening, though.

I almost got excited as well....but relax, guys. Back in "da game" in this case clearly is a clear reference to other endeavors that will naturally interest a young man.

If he doesnt plan on redshirting and vcan get cleared in Mid feb to play, I'm sure Les will take him for the stretch run. He'd save us from Thursday at least.
