High school coach runs up score

North Chicago High School beat Round Lake High School last night 129-48. It easily eclipsed the previous record for scoring among Cook County schools which was 117. In fact, after the scoring record was broken in the 4th quarter, North Chicago continued pressing full court and scored 10 more points in the last 1 1/2 minutes of the game to reach 129.
The game also broke records for margin of victory, 81 points.

They lead 33-9 after 1 quarter, 57-12 at the half, and went on to score 72 more points in the second half when the game was already lopsided.
Coach Gerald "King" Coleman of North Chicago had his team employ an aggressive full-court press from tipoff until the final buzzer. He justified this intense pressing for the full game by saying that he just wanted his team to work on their press.
"We didn't try to run up the score, but I wanted my kids to play hard and press the entire game. We aren't in the best of shape and I wanted them to get a full workout.
"I didn't care if we were 50 points ahead or 50 points behind -- we were going to work on our fullcourt press and our rebounding."

What a jerk!

If you are 80 points better than your opponent, then likely you aren't getting any real workout by pressing them
You could easily get the same challenge in an empty gym.
This coach is indeed a jerk, but he will get hammered somewhere down the road.....
North Chicago is in the same conference as Zion-Benton, and I'd love to see Lenzelle Smith hang about 40 points on these guys when they play.

This one is even worse than the first.

Seriously, 59-0 at half and you're still pressing and nailing 3s? Even an apology afterwards doesn't change that.

That team has 20 people in their school (!) and focuses on special learning abilities. At some point, when the team HAS NOT SCORED, you gotta think to yourself... "Wow, 100-0 would make us look like jackasses, not a good team..."

Round Lake, I don't care, in fact, I'm kinda laughing at that

(OK, so I grew up in Antioch, but since I'm gone, I'd laugh at them, too..)

Tornado, they are in the same conference but they are not in the same division. The North Suburban Conference is broken up into two divisions Lake, and Prairie. Lake is the big schools that has Warren (where my name comes from, they have Brandon Paul who is going to Illinois) Zion (Lenzelle Smith-Ohio St, Markus Yarbrough- Tennessee St.) and Lake Forest (Matt Vogrich- Michigan)
While the Prairie is full of all the little schools like North Chicago, Round Lake, Antioch.

There are two crossover games where teams play the other division, and North Chicago drew Libertyville and Mundelien (Ben Brust who Bradley has been rumored to recruiting, broke his leg against Stevenson), who are the bottom feeders of the Prairie division.

The championship game of the conference which the prairie loses every year by about 30 points is looking like its going to be North Chicago vs. Warren because Zion already has 2 losses in conference and Warren is still undefeated (beating Zion in a thriller)

So you might want to say you want Brandon Paul to light that jerk up for 40! cause the only way ZB and NC face eachother is in the State playoffs my friend

and North Chicago is in Lake County not Cook

Yet another story of a horrific blowout in high school (GIRLS) basketball!

I agree completely with the main point, but I'm going to nitpick about a minor point. It's definitely terrible sportmanship to keep the press on with a huge lead and not put in your subs. But I suspect the fact that they were shooting threes falls somewhere between irrelevant and a point in their favor. An extremely dominant team would score very close to two points per shot just taking it to the hoop for a layup, but even if the defense sat down very few shooters are good enough to knock down better than 50% from behind the line, or around 1.5 points per shot. Assuming you are not simply going to intentionally turn the ball over, you have to do something on offense, and having your team dribble around for a bit and then shoot a 20 foot shot seems about as sporting as anything to me.

The Texas girls' team that was in the headlines for losing 100-0 has finally won a game!
it's their first win since 2001, and nobody even recalls how many games in a row they had lost...at least 150

BTW -- two Chicago HS girls teams were involved in 1995 in a 106-0 game!

And-- last night -- an Illinois girls team ends a 41 game losing streak

Head Coach Michael Anderson was suspended 2 games by his school. Anderson said that "The game just got away from me." He played his starters for the 1st half and full court pressed them the whole half for a 104-1 lead. The head coach for the other team said that "People shouldn't feel sorry for my team. They should feel sorry for his team, which isn't learning the game the right way."

Now here's kind of the opposite...
two high school teams play a FULL game and the final score was 2-0
This is not a forfeit score -

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highs...-h-s--basketball-game-ends-2-0-172024260.html

One team scored a bucket 15 seconds into the game then the other team intentionally just slowed it down and held the ball while the team that was leading 2-0 defended with a zone --

They held the ball every possession until the end of the game then tried to score but failed.
Final score 2-0!!

Yet another high school basketbll game that makes the headlines because of the score

108-1

btw- - I went to a girls HS regional game last night and saw some more unfortunate bad sportsmanship ...the girls played hard and were great, the fans were great - but the coaching staff of the losing team was way out of line and pulled some memorably bad sportsmanship acts. They were soundly beaten, got plenty of the bad calls that went their way and yet nearly started a fight with officials and the other team's coaching staff then stormed off the court & took his team before the usual post game congratulations.
