How bout a sell out...

So now when we can't complain about the team we complain about the fans. Come on I'm sure 95% of the people that view this board go to BU games religiously if at all possible. You guys are wasting your time.

We used to get to games at the Fieldhouse when I was a kid 2 hours prior to the game just to get a spot on the street near the Fieldhouse. Games though then used to begin at 8pm.

Also, if anyone thinks the parking at BU/Carver is bad, go to an ISU game in Normal. Ive had to park out by the baseball field and walk arriving with ice formed in my eyes because of the cold and the long walk... and was not even rewarded with a cold beer.
 
I was not taking them of complaining about the fans but the students and fair weather fan that are complaining about the degree of difficulty it is to get to a BU game. I can understand if there is a blizzard or ice storm but any other excuse is just laughable. Parking and traffic in Peoria is a walk in the park compared to most metropolitan areas. The student body IMO has zero excuses for not heading to a Saturday afternoon game!
 
Sadly most students who care about college bball come in U of I fans and laugh at the level of the valley. They just don't care about BU basketball it's not the degree of difficulty in getting to games its the lack of interest that keeps most students away. It is frustrating, but was very enjoyable when we beat U of I.

And that has always been an issue, but I guarantee winning will solve that excuse. No way if we play ISU WSU or UNI and that game means something that those U of I fans wont go, just simply because it is a big game, and will want to see and be part of that atmosphere.

Now if U of I is playing at the same time then most U of I fans will choose that game, same with me as a BU fan if BU plays I watch BU regardless of if or who U of I plays. I get that and if that is how it is then fine.

Oh and a U of I fan should understand that the level of basketball played in the Big Ten isnt really very good regardless of the name on the front of the jersey. Its like watching a combination of wrestling and hockey in shorts and tank tops.
 
You gotta be kidding me. How lame! You go to BU and pull for the other guys. Is there some type of inferiority complex going on at BU these days. I can understand if you are talking about NW or U of Chicago but anywhere else in Illinois is just ludicrous. Schools are about academic first and then once you attend it you need to be loyal to the hilt.

Oh I'm sorry you must have miss read what I said. I said sadly there are people like that, and I enjoyed when we beat U of I. How bout reading what people say before freakin out.

I took that we were talking about BU students and you have "Sadly most students" blah blah blah Sorry if I took that the wrong way. Second who said that I'm freaked out. I just find it sad that there will be a ton of kids that one day will be stuck in a cube working their tail off for the next 40-50 years of their life and never took the opportunity in front of them to truly enjoy the total privilege they find themselves in. There are things I did while at BU that were just stupid but I can say that I had a blast enjoying the complete experience that only at college, at that age you can enjoy. Attending BU events and to me especially basketball was part of the great package.
 
Newsflash for the oldtimers - BU Basketball isn't the only show in town any more. With all of the things (cable tv, facebook, the internet, video games, etc.) vying for the students' time these days its no wonder that they "have better things to do" - especially when getting to the game is a challenge.

You may think that a bus ride isn't that bad but for the fairweather fan taking the bus is just one more obstacle in the way of getting to a game. You have to show up and leave at a specific time. You might get stuck next to someone you don't care for on the bus, etc. Why get hassled when you can stay home and watch Jersey Shore?

As for parking, I would think that even college kids could scrounge up a few dollars and split the cost if they wanted to park close...but who knows. College kids are poor...atleast I was.

I think the BU Marketing team could do a better job with promotions for the college kids and in the social media space in general. Just having a twitter account doesn't do it any more. You have to use things like facebook fan pages to not only gain interest and keep people apprised of what you are doing, but to incite them to participate.
 
That is one thing that I will give MO and company some credit for. They did do things to try and pull in the student "fans". Don't know what is done on campus right now, but it isn't working! As a student, I hated being stuffed in the one endzone, usually behind the band. I usually paid regular price for a better seat. But then again I was a "towny" and knew my way around the huge metropolis that is Peoria and didn't have to spend all that trying to find a way down to the arena!!!;)
 
There you go again BDS.. being mean.. I bet it was uphill all the way in both directions wasn't it?

There is just no easy way to get from campus to the Civic Center- I mean come on- it must be almost 2-3 miles!

If being somewhere at a certain time is a reason not to go, all I have to say is when the students get out of school and hopefully get a job, they will be welcomed to the real world.

I don't think its the fact that they have to be somewhere at a certain time to get to get to the game - its that they then don't have the freedom to come and go as they please.

Remember, these are fairweather fans.
 
I think the bottom line is if you win the fairweather or students will show up. If you play someone that students know ie Michigan State, Illinois they will show up.

But if you play Western Carolina, Loyola etc the casual/fairweather fan wont show up, then you go and lose to those school, they certainly will not show up, until you prove you are worthy of going.

Beat Evansville, and more students will show v CU. Beat ISU, more students will show v Drake, beat Evansville on the road and more show v ISU. Lose and they wont. Pretty simple.

This is a reality even though BU basketball is competing with mostly a virtual reality. As a late night news show says, "Sign of the times" and we all better learn how to market to this generation if we want to their attention. There will be a social impact and I'm betting an economic impact more on the negative unless someone finds a creative way to turn this medium into a productive outlet. I'm finding young men, in particular, coming out of college unprepared socially for the work world with extremely high expectations, with very little added value. There are some that truly excel but it has not been the norm. Young ladies now are much more aggressive, more grounded and socially adept then ever before at a young age. Title 9 has been extremely beneficial for them. This has been my experience in interviewing and hiring people the last few years. :-o

They won't be able to come and go as they please when they make it out into the real world either. If you're a basketball fan support your team, if not then no problem.
 
THIS JUST IN:

2 of my roommates who were going to the game with me just walked into our living room and asked...."is 'that' game on TV?"

"We don't feel like going to the game"

me: "why?"

"WE JUST DON'T DUDE" <---with attitude

ME: "I'm not going to bother helping you figure out if it is on ***kin TV when it is 2 min away, live."

This is the Bradley Student???
