How Much Input Do BU Trustees Have On Major BU Decisions?

Technically, does the BU President report to the Board of Trustees at BU? I can't believe she would make the decision on JL, with the buy out costs, and, possible affect on BU sports fundraising, without the full support of the Board of Trustees on her decision....Looking at the list of Trustees, seems most would be ferverent BU MBB supporters, and, would appear to be in JL's camp and aware of the risks of change. I used to work for one of the Trustees in my previous career and wouldn't believe in a month of Sundays he would let her make such a change if he didn't support it.

If she IS such a bad micro manager and running off qualified basketball coaching candidates, would be hard pressed to believe the Board of Trustees would allow that to happen without some serious conversations to her about her management style and changing it.

In my working career, decisions with this kind of financial impact on my former company would have been presented to the Board of Directors for approval before moving forward. But that was a public company.

If the Board of Trustees didn't ok her decision, and her process/timetable to move forward, consider me flabbergasted and speachless!

I do not believe the Board convenes and votes on everything that the President does. It is within the President's and the AD's job descriptions to make such a decision on their own.

I really want to understand the basic facts of the situation. Are you saying that JG and MC acted without Board approval when JL was fired?

I doubt anyone is being evasive. I am pretty sure we do not have any board members posting here. I think you know how boards work. The president is granted the authority to make certain decisions. She, in turn, grants people working under her the authority to make decisions.
The board does not vote or approve every action the president makes.

I am sorry you aren't getting the answer you wanted. I suggest you email Pres. Glasser or Dr. Cross. They have always responded to every email I have sent them.

I am not going to go for the word games. I doubt the board ever discussed or voted on the firing of the coach prior to it happening. IMO it was 100% the decision of the Pres. and AD. But what difference does any of this make? It's done and I have no problemn with moving forward. Why are you continuing to rehash this topic?

Because I wanted to know more in response to a post you made this morning. I guess you and I are in the same place of wanting to reshash. I think it is an important fact to know ... did, or did not, the Board approve the firing. From what I can glean, it seems the answer is yes.

Fair enough. I wouldn't think it would hard to find out the definitive answer ... and I think it would add a lot of clarity with regard to messaging that others continue to post regarding the situation.

I totally agree with you that Joanne speaks with the Chair and a few other Board of trustees.... Some daily. I have ALL the doubt in the world she had the blessing of the majority of the Board.

She will have to answer to them someday.... They are all very important and very busy people around the country. I bet the some don't even care who the coach is...... But I bet they ALL care about the future of Bradley University.

This is true. I made a similar post the other day to this effect and it was deleted because the moderator deemed it unverifiable. But I will say here and now that I asked a few BOT members I know and was told the BOT was consulted on this decision like many, many other important decsions. (I was told overall, support was given for the decision.) The BOT is her boss--any university president would be a fool not to consult with the BOT on such a decision that would be so public and generate such feelings positive and negative from fans and alumni.

Very much agree. However, if contributions to Bradley dry up, or if enough complaints are lodged about certain topics, then the BOT will have to listen. It may not happen this time around, and I am not completely talking about the firing of JL when I say this, but things like this tend to have a cumulative effect before action is taken.
