This is another reason BU needs to be prepared for any conference reconfiguration out there because the better the teams are from a conference the more money they can make from those teams that make the dance thus afford more money to offer top coaches. Coaches leave mid-majors not so much for the other school, unless it is one of the top programs, but because the amount of money they can make.

I think he'd be a great fit here, regardless of what anyone says blah blah blah Les isn't going anywhere...

Just stating a fact really...
Anyways, after watching this team, I am not sure from a smaller school perspective that ANYONE has their team run their sets and their offense more efficiently and run them to completion every time down the floor than Cornell...
They are a very well run team and you can tell...

Keep in mind Donahue is doing all of this great work with non-scholarship athletes. Imagine if he actually could offer scholarships!
Also, his 7 footer, who would be one of the better post men in the MVC, didn't have a single Division I offer out of HS. It's proof positive that they're out there; they just need to be found and developed. Obviously it's easier said than done...but it can be done.

Some of the best players are those that are under the radar that just haven't been able to develop yet.
Look at Samhan at Saint Mary's...
Does anyone think they beat out a major program to get him?

Samhan was recruited from only a couple minutes away from St. Mary's, nobody else had heard of him, he was only a 2-Star guy, overweight, slow, and probably overstated at 6-9..kind of a Sam Singh clone in high school...with only Idaho, USF, and St. Mary's and a couple jucos seriously offering...
No doubt that over the FIVE year interval, he has developed nicely, but I can imagine the criticisms and insults if we signed an exact same player right now..
the guy was NOT a solid D-I prospect at the time then...in fact virtually nobody wanted the guy - and yet you're suggesting we go out and sign a similar player....?
St. Mary's won the lottery with him, but let's be realistic...had his name come up in 2005, you and most posters here would have railed at the idea of bringing the guy to BU...
Mid-Major programs do not get the 4 and 5 star players, they get lower level players and the good programs develop these players into great players. Coach Stowell was very good at coaching post players, his teams always seemed to get a project at the center position and turn him into a good player.

There are many DII players out there that can play @ DI level but slip under the radar and then work their ??? off to prove people wrong. This also happens w/a lot of the mid major guys who want to prove they also know how to play BB. They are willing to put in the hard work that it takes to get better. Look at JC between his soph & junior year-it was just making up his mind to become one of the best players in the Valley and one of the best 3 point shooters in the country-There is a cost for getting better-who is willing to step up and do that.
What I like is all of these can't miss kids that go to the big school never to be heard from again. Also how many NBA players did you hear about in college-Many are from the smaller or less known schools and not always the stars.

Once again you have trouble reading between the lines, but what else is new...I don't know why I continue to even reply to your posts as its just a complete waste of my time, but here goes...
I was making a general statement first of all, and second, once again, I am sick of Bradley wasting significant resources and time on the likes of Shumpert, Wilkins, Bledsoe, and others like that when we have ZERO chance to get them...
That is why we need some assistant coaches in here that know how to develop players, so that we can get the 2-star player and develop him into the 4-star player because guys like Shumpert will never be walking through that door until we become a consistent winner and make the program a Butler or Gonzaga.
At least St. Mary's took a chance and saw something they could develop in a player...
What have we done? We had someone for 6 years and he didn't get any better...and we've had others for multiple years and they've yet to show any signs of improvement...
Oh, and since you felt like doing comparisons, Samhan's Freshman year was better than ANY of our bigs numbers any of the last 4 years...how's that for a comparison.

Then if you donate to BU, I encourage you to target your giving to Bradley and request that it not be used to recruit these guys..
However, I still want them to go after those guys, and the other guys like DSE, Jordan Prosser, Donivine Stewart, and Wilkins, so I am going to tell them to use my bucks for that so it won't make you so "sick".
(PS-- the entire budget that has been used to scout & recruit John Wilkins is likely less than $25, since he has come to BU only on his own dime and has yet to take an official or be reimbursed by BU)

Huh...so what is the problem with signing a Sam Singh clone and then developing him over a 5 year period? Color me confused on your point there.
I like Sam, nice guy, hard worker by all accounts, and had a lot of tough luck. I don't think he is a much different player now than he was the day he set foot on the hilltop. That is the problem.

Because that was a dumb statement and the only thing comparable about Samhan and Singh is the fact that their last names both start with an S...
Just look up the numbers...Like I said, Samhan had a better Fr. year than anyone we've put in the middle since O'Bryant, and I may be off, but I believe his Fr. year was better than POB's.
That being said, I agree with your final statement, and its looking as though the kid from down South is headed exactly in the same direction there...

Samhan did not play his first year (true freshman year) then in 06-07 avg 9ppg, 5 rpg
and Bradley sure did have someone whose numbers were better......
Zach Andrews 06-07: 11 ppg, 7 rpg
Samhan's numbers were NOT in any way better than Zach's until his 4th year at St. Mary's (08-09)
we can always look at someone else's best player and wonder why we don't have him...but I think that's delving into the irrelevant

And Stewart has been rated 0 - stars on places and 2 - stars on others and has been as high as 4 - stars some sites...
I have a hard time judging anything based on who is doing these rankings...
And while I don't whole heartedly disagree on your they "won the lottery" statement, they must have seen something as the guy averaged close to 10 a game as a Freshman.

So what you're saying is 11/7 is THAT much different from 10.5/7.2 along with 1.5 blocks a game comparing a JC Senior to a Sophmore...

I will agree with you on this much. That is also what I would like in an assistant coach. I don't want a friend of BU or Jim to get the job. I want a guy who will bust his butt and develop some players.

If I could include guards, there would be too many to list. Almost every guard who has stayed at Bradley 2 years or more has shown improvement each year (injury years excepted).
