Illini beat ranked Arizona State

Not a pretty game and a few costly Illini turnovers, but the Fighting Illini held on for a 17-14 win against Arizona State who was ranked #18/#22

I have one question for anyone who saw the final play of the game..

With 4 seconds remaining and Illinois simply had to be sure they ran the clock out so Arizona wouldn't get one more play, the Illini QB took the snap and ran around in the backfield for several seconds then leaped and held the ball overhead to celebrate when the clock finally hit 0:00..

BUT -- wasn't that at least somewhat of a risky move - given that the game does NOT end until the play is over, and the clock running out has NOTHING to do with the play ending..
so had an ASU player clobbered him as he was celebrating and Scheelhaase loses the ball, then Arizona State could grab the fumble recovery and possibly win the game!
Instead of celebrating - should he NOT have simply downed the ball?

I did not see that last play, but it sounds like he was trying to run the clock out. But I agree. Let's keep the celebrating until after the game is officially won. A great win for Illinois and it shows they could be a factor in the Big Ten race. As much as Northwestern is always a good team, they always seem to have a bad loss each season, this one being today against Army. Which is why I think Illinois probably finishes ahead of them in the overall standings.

Tornado, how big is your TV?

As NS ran back with the ball he took a quick knee THEN popped up to celebrate....nothing wrong with anything here.

So no celebrating early at all.

Huge Win. Top 25 would look nice.

I hate U of I football, Notre Dame beat higher ranked MSU. Today, I am King... at least over the Illini

I am on cloud 9 from the Irish win. The first two weeks of this season have been hard, but beating #15 MSU could be the turning point! 10-2 gets you into the BCS when you are Notre Dame and that's how good they are. I see 3 potential Pro Bowlers on the team. Not just NFL players, but Pro Bowlers. Can you guess who they are BUFanatic? Anyways great win for the Irish yesterday! Now on to Pitt who got beat by Iowa yesterday!

Hmm, future pro bowlers... Cierre Wood hands down, Michael Floyd, and the last could be Harrison Smith, Manti Te'o, or Tommy Reese, not sure the last one.
