Illini public scrimmage today (10/15)- standout player is.....Sammy M.

Illinois' problem has always been "what are the guys without the ball doing?" Usually, it is nothing. Hopefully Sammy's hustle will rub off.

Maybe, maybe not. Remember, Sammy was never a prolific assist guy while at BU. I wonder if that will change if he runs the offense at Illinois? Maybe he'll be better off as a "combo" guard with someone else running the show.

I think Sam was a very good player here and will be decent at U of I. He will add leadership. He will probably start since Ill doesn't have much at the point. I think he is really going to have trouble guarding Big 10 athletes. He has never been quick and had trouble guarding some MVC players. I think he will help the Illini, but if he is their star they have more problems than I think. I don't think the Iliini will be very good as it is.

I think Meyers Leonard is going to have a break out year if he can stay out of foul trouble (big if). Leonard had 18 points and 7 rebounds in today's scrimmage.

sure to cause consternation among the timid -- but Sammy Maniscalco was again -- DA MAN...

the Illini held an intrasquad scrimmage (Their Orange & Blue) and Sammy was nothing short of awesome --
among the leaders in every stat category...scoring 17 pts...
nailing four 3-pointers .....including (sound familiar) a 30-footer at the halftime buzzer!

Not to short-change Sammy, but he was one of 8 players to score in double figures in today's scrimmage. Just my opinion, but your post kind of seemed to insinuate that it was Sammy and then everyone else.

Meyers Leonard had 18 and 7 rebounds, Griffey had 17, Sammy had 17, Brandon Paul had 15 points and 7 assists, Mike Henry had 13, Joseph Bertrand had 13 points and 9 rebounds, DJ Richardson had 11 and Tracy Abrams had 10.

Lots of guys with prolific scrimmage numbers today.

Sounds like Weber may need to spend some time teaching defense.
but Sammy hits those 30-ft buzzer beaters - hard to defend those...;)

anyway - in answer to an earlier question -- nobody considers Illinois a Top 10 team...
They lost a lot of scoring and senior leadership...but....just who in the Big Ten is clearly going to be any better???
I think this could be a relative down year for the Big Ten -- with several of the perennial leaders losing very key players....Leuer, Diebler,

Of course Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan should be strong but after that everyone else also has big losses and questions...then there are around a dozen near-automatic wins if you can just stay focused and knock off Indiana, Iowa, Penn State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Minny...

So I think if Sam stays healthy and can lead the Illini to 4th place in the Big Ten then they go to the NCAA
