Illini recruiting

Illinois has committments from Eric Gordon, Bill Cole, and Mike Tisdale for 2007 as well as Richard Semrau, and Brian Carlwell for 2006.

Here are a couple sites that list or discuss who Illinois is after with their remaining scholarships--

The thing I notice is that they seem to be concentrating on off guard/small forward types like Evan Turner, Dar Tucker, Demitri McCamey, Leon Freeman, E'twaun Moore, Kodi Augustus, and others.
Dee Brown is the only guard who graduates. It seems like Calvin Brock won't see much playing time with all the guards they have and those being recruited. Trent Meacham and Jamar Smith appear to be in front of Brock on the depth chart. I have heard rumors that there might be an Illinois player who is thinking of transferring. Brock has alreay used up his redshirt season.
There are also rumors on various internet sites that since Eric Gordon hasn't signed a LOI yet (he is not eligible to sign until November), that he might still change his mind. Apparently, one of the new assistants just hired by new Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson is close to Gordon and his family. Are any Illini fans worried?

There already seems like there is something a little sinister about Derrick Rose's brother Reggie acting like his agent. All communication with Derrick has to go through Reggie. I can imagine that some college coaches have become very good friends with Reggie and have tried to find out what favors they can do for Reggie to get "in with" Derrick.
All this seems to make it less likely that a good guy like Bruce Weber doesn't stand a chance against some of the others recruiting Rose.

IF.........funny you would say that.........I have had the very same thoughts.......it's a problem to overcome and you know big brother wants to make the final decision!

I'll bet someone in Rose's family is demanding to be hired as assistant coach before Derrick will commit anywhere.
Don't be surprised if it happens.

sometimes I feel sorry for Rose, he has people telling him how he has to go to different schools everyday on his myspace. I also find it amazing that all the really good players seem to find each other on myspace and talk, since peoples display names usually are not there real names.

Strong talk around Chicago and Illinois that Evan Turner has decided to accept a scholarship from Illinois and that only a couple fine details have to be cleared before it is announced.
He has offers from numerous top programs.

A new Scout article includes an interview with Evan Turner. He says it is not true that he is planning to commit to Illinois. He is not ready to commit to anyone right now. He says he will soon cut his list to a few serious considerations.

http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/538969.html

He says Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Miami and DePaul are all possibilities. He has also recently heard from Duke, but they have not offered, but have asked Turner not to commit so that they can have more time to watch him during the July evaluation period.

It sounds like he has eliminated Bradley and any other midmajors.

E'twaun Moore ..............

Moore just verballed to Purdue, tough break for Bruce Weber, but I guess the new consensus is
that a verbal doesn't mean you have to back off recruiting, right?

If you are Bruce Weber, even a signed LOI shouldn't stop you from tampering...er recruiting a kid. Mr. Dentmon could tell you that. :D

What goes around comes around for wittle Brucey
