Indiana Hit with more penalties

Now....their academic shortcomings, in part prompted by all the players leaving, but some is because those guys were all flunking anyway,
NOW-- Indiana will lose 2 more basketball scholarships for 2009-2010 on top of what they had set as self punishment for the Kelvin Sampson violations.

So they will only have 10 scholarships available for 2009-2010, nine are already taken by players who are on campus already, BUT----
they already have FOUR incoming kids committed for 2009-2010 (Derek Elston, Bobby Capobianco, Maurice Creek, and Jordan Hulls) , so two of them will NOT have a scholarship available unless someone who is present on the team right now either leaves or has their scholarship yanked!

BUT, there's even one more clincher, that if the NCAA decides the pending case against Kelvin Sampson and Indiana University, and judges that IU should be docked even more scholarships, they could take even more away from them for 2009-2010, or (especially if he case isn't decided for quite a while), they could impose the penalty down the line for 2010 and beyond, really hurting their recruiting for years to come.

BUT--- a note to the present players........watch out, Tom Crean
will need a couple more scholarships to give to the incoming players in 2009,
so yours might get yanked.....!!!

That's right, they have one senior who'll be gone and his scholarship opens up for next year.
As history has told us, if a coach needs an open scholarship, he could, and in many examples we have notyed, DOES run off players to open up scholarships for those players he is bringing in.
Generally the players that get run off are the ones that were recruited by the former coach....so read between the lines.........

Well, he wouldn't have to worry about playing time

And a prime candidate to be run off by Indiana could be Matt Roth....we shall see.

Yea, I wonder how happy he is now about his decision? I would be pretty mad at myself.

Former Indiana player Armon Bassett, who left UAB, will not be transferring to the MVC. He has decided to transfer to Ohio University of the MAC.

Bassett has already dismissed from two different programs which have been known to tolerate trouble (UAB, Kalvin Sampson).
In addition, he already lost a year when he transferred to UABnow he won't be eligibble 'til midyear next season and will only have one year left to play.
