Indiana NCAA Sanctions

This ncaa investigation is a joke as they are not going to do anything until summer which means that Indiana has cheated their way to the tournament; once again a bcs school gets away with it.

Waiting until this summer means they can go to the tournament and play against teams that didn't cheat to get their players....pathetic.

Here is more- Indiana will publically reveal the NCAA's list of violations and their initial response today. But the NCAA won't make a ruling on any punishment until after a June hearing. Indiana has until May 8 to respond to these allegations.

There are reportedly 5 "major" violations involving Coach Sampson providing "false or misleading information" to the school and NCAA investigators--

I don't understand why people think the NCAA is going to do anything to Sampson. The school might fire him but the NCAA will not do anything to him.If there not going to do anything to USC football they won't do anything to IU basketball.

The NCAA can't really do anything to Sampson, but no school will hire him after this. He'll go the way of Jim Harrick, Dave Bliss, and Fran Fraschilla - Coaching pariahs in the college ranks. Luckily for Fraschilla he's been able to find work as a color analyst for ESPN, likely because of his east coast roots.

In regards to USC, the NCAA hasn't gone this far with them yet, likely because Pete Carroll isn't at the center of problems and isn't thumbing his nose at them along the way. That, and they're the dominant college football program in America. ;)

The USC problem is the same problem that the U of MI had with Webber except this time it was not a booster who gave Bush money but an agent. Now how does a University control that? NCAA will punish a University if the infraction was under their control. They could punish the student if he was still playing.

This is correct but some people will never accept that, mostly rival schools fans.

The coaching staff sent Bush to that agent. The Staff knew what kind of house is was living in and what kind of car Bush was driving.

Another question

Could Indiana self impose a post season ban this year, if so it would be in their best interest to do so.

Yo Matt Roth.....

IMO this is much more serious than a slap n the wrist.

Now stop with the NCAA coddles BCS schools conspiracy....;)

I agree.....................And based on all the rumors floating around I have got to think IU will take the high road and fire/forced resignation/buyout Sampson. This is a program with a long-standing reputation for honesty.

I really think the other shoe drops sooner (no pun intended) rather than later. This is the end for Kelvin Sanctions :)

And recall that IU assistant coach Rob Senderoff was already fired as a "fall guy" over these violations. Now here is a USA Today article with a quote released by another Indiana assistant coach, Jeff Meyer, at the bottom admitting fault ("I regret that I may have made mistakes").

Is this another attempt to deflect blame away from Sampson, and onto another assistant? Is this Jeff Meyer guy going to get fired next to try to salvage Sampson's career, and Indiana's great recruiting class? Don't put it past Sampson to sacrifice as many assistants as he needs to.--

I find it funny that KSanctions was already not allowed to make ANY phone calls and then was a part of "over 25" calls that exceeded limits set for coaches with CLEAN records. Not only was the cheater cheating by disregarding his punishment from previous cheating, but he was flat out cheating :o. You gotta wonder how much other stuff this guy has done that went undetected or happened before people started to realize he was a cheat. At the very least KSanctions should be lead quietly out of Bloomington while a chunk of the players he recruited while cheating transfer out. In the middle of the road, he should never be hired again. What I want to see is IU step up and declare themselves ineligible for postseason, even if its 2009. Won't happen, oh well. Why would anyone want to be part of such a dishonest program? Why would anyone put themselves in that position, possibly not getting to have even a CHANCE to the play in the NCAA? Just doesn't make much sense..

ESPN now has this headline on the main basketball page--

NCAA Cites Scandal At Indiana
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3243793

The above link has a video about this story.

And here is a link to the actual NCAA letter that was issued to Indiana. It is quite detailed about the illegal calls, who made them, and which athletes they were made to. Interesting reading. It is impossible, IMO, that these coaches could make all these calls and not be fully aware that each and every one was an NCAA violation that they were knowingly committing, while they were on probation prohibiting such calls!--
