Indiana State recruit Clayton Vette lands at Iowa State

New Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott has really been busy.
He yanked the scholarships of a couple of his curent players in order to free up something to work with, and in the past 4 days, Corey McIntosh and Ross Marsden are gone from the team.

Then he signs Clayton Vette (whose only other ofers were from Indiana State, Drake, and Illinois State), and a skinny freshman, Jordan Dykstra commits to lock up a scholarship well into the future and the kid hadn't even played a single game of high school basketball yet.

Add to that guys like Lucca Staiger, Marcus Brister, Diante Garrett, Wes Eikmeier, Dominique Buckley, and even Dodie Dunson who McDermott has landed....many of whom are from tiny little Iowa schools but all of whom were considered mid-major prospects, but McDermott wanted them anyway.

Ok...this should give McDermott a decent chance to say he's a great coach, since he really isn't getting many kid that aren't midmajor talent.
Maybe he can improve on that 4-11 finish down the stretch last year.

Iowa State's Greg McDermott snags another mid-major recruit by snapping up Clayton Vette who just decommitted from Indiana State.

Clayton Vette is a name some will remember -- he was a Bradley recruit back 5-6 years ago...Drake & ISU also wanted him...
he then verballed to Indiana State and was one of Greg Lansing's first recruits, then had a decent senior season in high school
and was talked into decommitting by Greg McDermott - who then lured Vette to Iowa State to fill one of the open rides he had when his players departed...
BUT - once he got to Iowa State it was apparent he just wasn't a BCS-caliber player -

Then it turned out he simply coundn't get any playing time - so he left again - this time dropping down and landing at Winona State (D-II)

He had a nice successful career and was named the D-II National Player of the YEAR!!
