While thinking about next season a strange question came into my mind. Would I rather be a great player (receiving high accolades) on a bad team or the worst player (maybe never playing) on a great team? Be honest and answer if you wish while we wait for our last recruit to sign!

Well I could see either side. But truthfully I would want to play. If I had a choice other than the two you propose, I'd take maybe a good division 2 or 3 team with some fans that come to the games. For instance a Ill Weslyan instead of a bad division I school or sitting on the bench for 4 years at a great school.

I would rather play on a bad team and be a good player if not the best  .......the other option of riding the pine for a good team just doesn't cut it for me! Also every year the good team reloads with players who are your calibar or even better! :-o

Thats a great question GTD......to answer the question I'd rather play.

Trouble is I think MOST players just want to be able to tell people "I'm going to______" (the highest level offered.)

Bradley is behind the 8 ball almost everytime they go after a recruit and are matched up against the big boys. JL does an amazing job all things considered.

We need multiple trips to the NCAA's and get our name more easily recognized like SIU,Gonzaga and perhaps Butler to name a few.

I also think a few more recruits at games where we do those red or white outs is key. Think it sold cole-scott and its too bad coley couldn't visit on a nite like the opener against DePaul.

Or the Providence game. 8)

Wasn't that when Cole-scott committed? I could be wrong.....

Sorry for being off the topic, but your user name "Big Mike" reminds me of one of my all-time favorite BU players... Big Mike Davis!

I know the player myself GTD............but i was more of a football player myself.....but a HUGE Braves fan for life!

Depends what your definition of a good and bad team are. Are we talking...wins/losses?

Are we talking team interaction? Great coach, teammates mesh well and things flow?

I rode the bench for 2 years in high school, but my team won almost all our games. Being part of a winning team was a great experience, but not playing unless we were up by 30 was very frustrating. I could only be happy to a point with a good individual performance if my team lost every game.

Wins and losses only.

You are correct DRU... Cole Scott committed to Bradley after the Providence game.

To be honest I would take the winning team, I experienced both in soccer and I much prefer to play with better players, my senior season I had been decimated by Mono and because of my reduced stamina and all the time I was recovering and getting back in shape my skill level did not increase and I rode the bench quite a lot. However I still kept a good attitude and took the attitude that practice was like a game and that made the other players step up in practice and really helped improve the team. I ended up garnering a couple of awards for my efforts. I guess I'm the kind of person that I love to win and compete at the highest level.

Even though basketball was always my first love, I was always too small. Played a lot of fast pitch softball, even being on a state championship team in 1966. But I knew my limits. I saw too many guys ride the bench for a winner, who could be playing every game for any other team. Give me the playing time if I'm not going to be playing for a living.

I think I would rather be the best player on the bad team, because who knows, if you are good enough you could get to the next level. However, it would probably seem like you were a peyton manning(at least before this past january).

I can speak from experience as I was a bench player on two very good Princeville teams in the mid 80's. My junior year we went 28-3 before losing to Providence St.Mel in the quarterfinals and my senior year we were 27-0 before getting upset in the sectionals. I wouldn't trade a moment of any of that experience to have been a starter on a bad team.

As a coach, you don't want your players to have that mind-set. Every player on your team is valuable even if they don't see much PT during the games. I totally understood my role was to practice hard and make the starters work to get better.
