Is a CIT Championship Banner Worthy?

The players and coaches have never given up and have won 3 tournament games against Division 1 teams. If they win they deserve a banner. Thanks for another 20 win season guys.

yes it is worthy.

I think oakland may have been the best team we played all year at home. Including creighton and butler.

I also agree. If we get a banner put it up. Tournaments are no easy thing to win and deserve recognition (look at our record at winning the MVC Tournament:( ).

Regarding Oakland however, NOT IMPRESSED! They weren't bad -- kind of an UNI-light, IMO. We played mediocre against Oakland and awful against Pacific. Oakland would have finished between 3 and 6 in the Valley this year. They were nowhere near as good as Butler or Creighton.

We'd better bring the "A" game against ODU or we'll get blown out.

There actually is no trophy. Everyone on the winning team gets a 1st place ribbon.

Wow, sounds like a "band camp" or "4-H" kinda deal there.

On another note, I watched all three tournament games so far and a disturbing trend I noticed is that Bradley actually seems to be playing worse as they go.

Or maybe APSU was do to rustiness, OU was the better team (at least that night), and UOP was a hangover game.

No excuses for Tuesday.

If we win the CIT, is the accomplishment worthy of hanging a banner at the Civic Center in recognition of winning the 4th tourney of a post season?

I wasn't at a game this year to know if we gave ourselves a runner-up banner for the CBI.

ummmmmmmmmm......NO.

any tournament that has a .com in there somewhere SHOULD NOT HAVE A BANNER

Our other banners hanging from the rafters (NCAA runner-ups, NIT when it meant something..) merited votes in the final AP poll. If winning this tourney does not merit a placement in the final AP poll, then no banner hanging from the rafter.

(I do not think we hang a banner when we win the MVCt and I think that is more important)

I'm fine with another basketball or posted sign, but not a hanging banner.

Put up a poster on the wall or a big sign similar to the one for the cbi or commissioner classic or whatever, but be sure to write "WINNER" or "CHAMPIONS" on it somewhere... I don't think it warrants a banner necessarily, but I'm tired of everyone downplaying everything we do because we're not in the Elite 8 right now. We're accomplishing something so give some credit and be happy for what we have for once. We aren't one of the top 8 or 16 basketball programs in the country right now, so be happy that we are as high as we are by marking our accomplishments while we simultaneously reach for our status as a perennial national power. It's sure hard to build if you aren't happy with a foundation.

So we arbitrarily decide that a tourny with a .com is not worthy.

An argumenet very well be made that the tourny is not worthy but for one to use part of the name of the tournament as an element of the deciding process is being rather flippant.

Banner??? Let's win it first and then have this argument for argument sake! I say no because before you know it we'll be arguing if the team should get rings.

IMHO Banners should be for very special accomplishments and not undercutting this teams achievement but this does not come close to either a MVC championship nor a Sweet 16. Not close! It would be like retiring your favorite Braves number who you like because he hustles, plays smart and was a great team player but never came close to being an All Conference or any national merit recognition. It would be a slap in the face to all the other greats who really did something that warrants that distinction.

I can't remember but did Tulsa do any cutting down of the nets type of deal last year. That may be a stupid question, but I'm just wondering. I'm also hoping to God we don't do anything of the sort.

IF we win that is....

Yes...There was a trophy presentation and the Tulsa team & coach cut down the nets last year.

For what it is worth, I think the quality of teams (not the names, the teams) is better in the CIT than CBI last year.

I don't think so...I think we're worse than last year and it makes the teams look better. Tulsa was fantastic last year and they are a bigger name than austin peay or oakland.

Everyone sees things differently. The CIT does not have big names, but there were some good quality teams. I think Oakland was comparable to Tulsa, and Old Dominion is, too.

Tulsa's RPI last year was 94. ODU's is around 90.

ODU only has banners for National Championships.

DIV II Basketball Nat'l Champs
and 3 Div I Women's Nat'l Championship banners

ODU has blank banners and has a list of accomplishments, for example.

CAA 2005
NCAA 2005
NIT Final Four 2006
NCAA 2007
CBI 2008...... and the next one will be
CIT 2009 Champions

Our women do the same thing... but their banners are ridiculous. 3 natl champion banners and two big banners for other accomplishments.

They won 17 straight conference championships and of course went to the NCAA tourney 17 straight times so theres looks more like this: (17 times)

CAA 2000
NCAA 2000 Sweet 16
CAA 2001
NCAA 2001 Final 4
CAA 2002
NCAA 2002
CAA 2003
NCAA 2003 Sweet 16

This year we had LOTS of injuries, last year we were in the sweet 16, but it's been about a decade since we were in the Championship game..... Tennessee happened.
