Is BU gonna pony up the cash???

BU freak

With a good quality coach demanding $700,000 or more per year, is BU really gonna pay the new coach that much given the fact we just gave Les a boatload of cash to leave? Or are they going to try to find a coach in the $400,000 range where Les was? Just curious what everyone thinks.

I think...or more realistically hope, that BU is going to look for the best coaching candidate first. After that, then I would consider the salary of the candidate.

Coach first, money second.

No, I am not naive enough to think that money will not be a consideration, but I want them worrying about the quality of the candidate...not the cash.

I doubt you'll see a salary in the $700,000 range for the next BU coach.

Find a quality coach from another low major for under $400k and if he gets us in the top 3 Valley and the big dance within 2 years, then he gets a big raise. Perhaps work out a nice incentive laden contract for a coach that wants a bunch up front but is willing to work for it.

Hard to spend money you don't have (unless you're the government).

I suspect after this recent event that they'll have even less money to work with as donations dry up. What a piece of work...

Well i asked this in another thread and DC answered it...the coach cannot be paid more than the president. I have no idea how much the prez gets paid but I can't think it's more than 500K a year. Therefore, to pony up 500K for a new coach would also mean paying the president more....not going to happen. This is purely a hunch and i could be way off base but I don't see BU going over 400K and even that might be a stretch by 50-100k per year

Well all I know is that i've had two ppl tell me that it was correct....one was DC in another thread and another was a PM that just happened not 2 minutes ago. I've heard this a number of times over the years and it seems to be true considering how JL was paid less than the prez. It's a university by-law the president has to be the highest paid employee. And I agree plenty of other universities have their big sport coaches as the highest paid, but not here....

Well fine, then I guess I give her a quarter more than what the coach is paid and call it a day OR I get the board to change the by-laws which can be revisioned after the fact...this can and probably should be done...

I mean I get the concept, but it's not a very good one...

Imagine if this were Texas and we had a football program...

100% agree on all points

nature of the beast...if it's true

I do not believe that is in anyway a university bylaw. I think JL got paid more than her. I think it is a JG by-law going forward that no one will make more than her - even though that is the typical D1 fashion for basketball and football coaches.

I thought many coach's salaries were much, much lower than their contract's total compensation (ie salary+media+endorsements..)

JL may have made more than her if you include promotional things that were "extra". But I'm pretty sure it was public knowledge in a newspaper article or something a while ago that said his base pay as well as the base pay of the president...and it was lower

edit: yes it was...in the journal star...prez at 500k and JL at 440K...doesn't that ring a bell? I'm pretty sure there was a minor discussion about it on this board..

I'm almost positive the details of JL's most recent contract have never been made public. And I am talking strictly about money that is paid by BU, not any promo deals.

Hmmm, didn't see it, but I guess I could have missed it.

EDIT: Youre right. I found it.

This highlights that a coach can make more than JG, but will not... (at this point in time JL DID) Only ego's limit the salaries...

maybe, but nobody will say they are interested or want to even waste time on an interview unless and until a serious quote of the salary involved is given...

I am not convinced this is true...
Jim Les' current salary was due to a contract negotiation that took place and was signed into effect BEFORE Dr. Glasser ever got here. So his salary was and is exempt from the requirement stated....and thus I don't believe Dr. G is making $500,000K..
You can look it up but very few university presidents - even the ones at MAJOR universities that would be paying way more than Bradley pays...are not at $500K...
I have read Dr. Glasser's salary is closer to $400K ($408K according to this)
http://www.bradleyscout.com/index.p...idents-in-illinois&catid=3:a-section&Itemid=5

or base salary of $396K according to this - with retirement, benefits, and perks pushing it up higher..

Well agree to disagree because I've heard this even while still at Bradley and I remember vaguely a conversation happening about how JL got paid less than glasser...and i'm sticking with it and fully believe it. It's a private university and it's not as outlandish as some would think....now if we were a BCS or even a public school then it's a different story

JG> JL......it was in the paper a couple months ago comparing university presidents wages.....want to say she even made more than isu prez............

How about a base of 500,00 with extra money for getting in the NCAA because Bradley would get money from the NCAA for being in the tour.

So, just to see if I have this correct....

She fires Coach Les, and has to hire someone at a higher salary than her, and as a result has to give herself a raise to make more than the head basketball coach.

So, as a result of the decision to fire coach Les, she will need to make more money.

Sounds a little bit conspiratorial, but is in factually incorrect?
