I think this is an example of the copycat phenomenon regarding the Cameron Crazies at Duke.
At Creighton, like at many schools, there is a relatively small segment of the student fan group that thinks it is a requirement that the students act like clowns. They paint their faces alike in school colors, they wear school-colored overalls, and they have pregame meetings to brief them on little-known facts about the opponents players, and what kinds of vulgar chants they will perform in unison.
Creighton has such a small group of such fans, and they feel it is their birthright to win every game, and to act like obnoxious clowns.
Most of the Creighton fans are great, supportive people, and as nice as can be. But it's always a small group that stands out.
