ISU's Deontae Hawkins suspended

..
Milik Yarbrough -
charged with theft and possession of stolen property -
...further hearings in December....
Milik Yarbrough appeared and entered his plea, and is now scheduled for jury trial in February... he remains free on $5000 bond

Looks like the Bloomington Pantagraph is finally starting to catch up on the story-
...Hawkins was arrested early Sunday morning and charged Monday with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving with a suspended license. ........

appearing in court again this week - ISU's Deontae Hawkins affirmed his desire to plead not guilty and was given a date for his pretrial hearing.
I know that lawyers do this just to push things back further and further, and in the end he will likely deal a plea for supervision, but ironically, the date set for his next court appearance is...

10am, Thursday March 2, 2017...right smack on the middle of the week of practices before the MVC Conference Tourney...
...and the day some teams begin play and most teams will be IN St. Louis.
betcha, the lawyers are working to get a little further continuance.. ;)

Yarbrough (Feb. 2) and Clayton (Jan. 31) each have their next court hearings in about two weeks

More trouble with the law in Normal...

Even while he's waiting for his court dates for his DUI
Deontae Hawkins gets caught again driving with a suspended license!!
(plus driving an uninsured vehicle!) Now he has additional court dates!

DJ Clayton's case was heard yesterday (underage consumption & theft/stolen merchandise), and with a guilty plea,
he was granted court supervision thru Jan. 31, 2019 plus 60 hours of public service & court costs.

Milik Yarbrough's court date for his similar Theft/Stolen property charge is tomorrow.

..two other players are also currently under supervision for their DUI's,
including one who has failed to appear for all his assigned court dates for the last 6 months

Taylor I sure hope your not seriously considering this program.

actually, wily, there are a couple guys on their roster who are not in the court database ;)
compare that to a nearby MVC roster where nobody for two seasons is in the database

but the ISU people will look at that and say..
"but we're winning... ;)" and that is the only thing that matters, I guess.....

This happened again? Like...recently? How is this guy still playing?

just cited again on Jan. 27 driving with suspended license and uninsured vehicle.

and he's still playing for one main reason, that he's helping them win in the middle of a challenge for the MVC title and an NCAA bid that undoubtedly Dan Muller would benefit from.

the star players get preferential treatment

...btw-- watching the UNI-ISU game, and Hawkins musta gotten back from the courthouse in time because he's starting...

I wish Bradley would get better so their troll of a board runner had something to do. Maybe spend more time downgrading Bruninga since he has no desire to go to Bradley.

mvcfan, I don't get it...
this is a simple 3-page thread about the arrests at ISU and exposing facts that nobody else does...

But over at the message board strangely named "MVCFANS" there's a 7-page thread about the exact same topic...that is far most hostile and negative..
and there's multiple threads & even more negativity and ragging on the whole program about this over on the ISU board..

so consider going over there and downgrading them for talking about this same topic..

** but ONLY if you average 15 ppg
walk-ons and 2-3 ppg players with multiple DUIs do run a very slight risk of being truly disciplined - but very slight - - on 2nd thought - nawww - not at ISU

Yeah the last thing I need after the Cubs is ISU making a tourney run for the first time in 21 years on the back on non-disciplined thugs.

ISU is good and it helps the MVC any time our teams are good...
I certainly don't hide the fact that I wanna get there again...been a long time...

Your use of the word thug is quite comical. He was pulled over for no insurance and suspended license. You guys are talking more about this then your game last night.

he was defying a direct court order - his license wasn't just out of date, it was suspended by a judge because he had a DUI..
driving on a suspended license under a DUI is seen as a serious offense and punishable as follows...
the penalties will come from two different levels of jurisdiction...
One being the court system local & state, the other being the Secretary of State's Department that issued the license.

"..license revocation is mandatory for certain offenses, including:
...driving under the influence of alcohol

Driving while your license is suspended or revoked is a crime. You may be
charged with a petty offense, a Class A misdemeanor, or a felony, depending
on the circumstances of your charge. Your charge may be more serious if
you have previous convictions for driving after suspension or revocation, or
if your license was suspended or revoked for certain reasons.

If your license is suspended or revoked for certain other violations, including
driving under the influence, you may face a minimum sentence of 10 days in
jail or 30 days of community service if you are convicted of driving after
suspension or revocation. (625 Ill. Comp. Stat. ?§ 6-303(c).)
In certain other situations, you may incur a 180-day minimum sentence.
(625 Ill. Comp. Stat. ?§ 6-303(d-3).)
"

If you are pulled over and your license is suspended because of a prior statutory summary suspension or DUI conviction,
the penalties provided by Illinois law can be severe.

Driving while suspended or revoked is a Class A misdemeanor offense. For all Class A misdemeanor offenses, the sentencing
range is incarceration for up to one year in the county jail and a fine of $2,500. However, the state legislature has passed laws
establishing additional mandatory minimum sentences for the offense when the cause of the suspension or revocation is a prior DUI.

On the first offense, the minimum sentence is 10 days in jail or 30 days of community service. One day of community service is 8 hours of work.
Therefore, 30 days of community service is 240 hours.

When the Secretary of State revokes a person’s driver’s license, the revocation is supposed to last for one year.
....One of the most critical issues for driving while license suspended or revoked for DUI is that a conviction will cause the Secretary of State
to re-suspend or revoke the person’s driver’s license for the same period as before. That is, the Secretary of State will double the length of the suspension.
For a license that is revoked for one year, the revocation will be extended for one year."

BTW- you'd think he'd have known about the severity since one of his ISU teammates got a 2nd DUI while driving on a suspended license from a prior DUI..
thus the "court supervision" he was serving was instantly upgraded to a FELONY CHARGE of "Aggravated DUI while License Suspended/Revoked"
That charge is a Class 4 Felony in Illinois and carries a possible penalties as such...

"Driving under the influence without a valid license is a Class 4 felony. Supervision is not available for felony offenses.
The penalty for a Class 4 felony is 1-3 years in the Department of Corrections (DOC) and possible $25,000 fine."

...I guess I can understand why said teammate has skipped his court dates and fled the state...

and trust me, we know about our losses - nothing more to talk about...fallout from a horrid regime continues..

I doubt very highly most ISU fans like having kids that get into trouble. I know quite a few and they don't feel that way or condone those acts. The term "thug" is also painting with a pretty wide brush. If you look up the definition of thug you will find it describes a violent criminal often associated with murder. I don't see anything remotely close to this with this kid. Did he screw up? You bet he did. Is what he done a serious offense. Yes it is, but that doesn't make him a "thug". I'm a BU fan and don't have much use for ISU basketball. Football? I kind of enjoy reading about it and like to see them win since we don't have team. I think we have a healthy rivalry and hope we can be more competitive in it in the near future. But in my opinion I hope we don't start calling their players "thugs".

I am a 32 year old white mail that weighs about 140lbs. I once lost my license for getting caught with a fake ID in college. Am I a thug?
