Jerrance Howard situation

LaVall Jordan can also deliver an effective big man who will be leaving Michigan at the end of this season with immediate eligibilty...

In order for that to happen, Bradley has to offer a graduate program that Michigan does not. Is that correct?

That big man would certainly be an improvement over the big's we saw this year but I'm not sure he would come. He has had a pretty good year and Coach may reconsider what he said earlier. We can hope.

I'm sorry. However, I want someone who can show potential for recruiting in the future. Bringing in a one-year big man is a start but we should look more into the future that just next year.

just heard the absolutely weirdest thing on the radio...
Phil Theobald was talking sports then went impromptu right into a loose-nuts-type rant that defended the PJ Star's coverage of the Jerrance Howard situation even with the inaccuracies regarding the outcome and sentence that the column had.
He seemed to be claiming that it was only the headline that was wrong and that later the PJS placed a tiny "correction" buried deep in the paper...

Then the weirdest part - he apparently threw off his headphones, got up, and stormed out of the studio to the complete surprise of those at WAZU 90.7 FM that had invited Theobald to talk sports.
Wow - I guess I never knew this far into his journalistic retirement that he still harbored such intense grudges and was such a loose cannon still.
I think he kinda made a doofus out of himself (again), but I suspect some listeners thought it was funny & staged.
But the reaction by the studio personnel confirmed it was not - it was just Phil losing it and going off on a world-class Keith Olbermann-like rant.

Phil needs to just step back from anything that's Red and White or looks like it has to do with Bradley - he really has a deep problem there...

They used to have the Sportswriters show on WMBD. I remember DR being very cordial to the callers. However, if PT did not like what a caller was saying (even though it was a talk show for listeners to call in and voice their opinion) he would absolutely go off on them

Good. Hope he stays off the air. Turned the show off too soon darn it. Never has been a Bradley fan.

Does anyone else remember the Itoo Hall preseason event in 2003? Phil showed up at the event wearing an Iowa sweatshirt, then claimed it was a completely innocent act. Just another stunt that showed PT was not a fan of Bradley, and certainly was never a fan of Jim Les. At the time he was claiming that Bradley tampered with their recruiting of Marcellus Sommerville from Iowa. Later, Marcellus and his father Carl would prove Phil wrong when they stated clearly that Bradley was never in contact with Marcellus until after he received his release from Iowa and transferred to Southwestern Illinois junior college.

Phil to this day insists Bradley tampered while Cellus was at Iowa - even tho no findings ever supported that and even the only guy who had any direct knowledge - recanted his one statement and denied it ever happened.
Funny how a "journalist" who is supposed to be fair, balanced, and objective can be so biased in spite of overwhelming facts that he is wrong.

Phil is in his own little world and I'm elated I don't live there. It is a known fact he was not in support of hiring JL and a lot of people thought he was very anti MO at one time. They have since mended their fences and now are good friends.

I think he does still have a grudge towards Molinari - but the feeling has never been mutual because Coach Mo never holds grudges...

Wasn't it Phil who posted a juvenile column after a game in the Molinari era that said "My mother always told me that if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all", accompanied by a half page of the PJ Star sports section that was left entirely blank?

I won't suggest there was tampering one bit, but if there was do you think anyone to do with Sommerville would have said there was? To many on here worry way to much about what is in the paper. Hopefully Bradley has all it's focus on getting the attention of an elite coaching hire to get the ship turned around. If that is Jerrance then great if it someone else hopefully it works out. One thing for sure is there needs to be more stability behind the head coach throughout all Bradley athletics.

I don't think so T. I have seen them both playing golf together several years ago and I know for a fact Phil would drive over to Macomb to watch Mo and his Leathernecks. That would not have happened during Mo's last years or right after his dismissal.

Kirk Wessler is like Twitter Jim. They use their position of power for a personal vendetta. Reporters are supposed to report the news not try to manipulate it because they don't like something. If Kirk personally does not like a fact he uses his position to influence it. It is time for him to retire just as Phil did.

I guess when you take this wild, emotional rant stuff and combine it with the column by Kirk Wessler where he tried to invoke tears....
claiming he broke down and had an emotional bromance moment and hugged Geno....

then you kinda have trouble denying that this PJS staff is so emotionally tied to the Bradley situation, and so deeply involved on a personal, man-love level - that how can anyone claim they have the ability to do a fair, unbiased job?

I get the same sense of objectiveness as when Kirk Wessler ranted on Bradley about their expansion plans but then turned somber and emotional about his own family home where he grew up being bulldozed.....
holy cow - my newspaper was still wet from the tears he was shedding and yet he's claiming to be open and objective??

I would urge all readers of anything in the PJStar to take it all from the perspective that these guys are NOT objective or balanced..
they are so emotionally tied for whatever reasons to the current staff of Dr. Glasser & Geno that what they write is about as mushy and tear-jerking as some story about lost puppies...

And don't get me started about the 100th consecutive column by Phil Luciano about his idol Big Al and their place of worship downtown - seriously - has anyone ever gotten so much press in all of PJS' history??
