UC-Davis' women's head coach is also their Big West Coach of the Year -

Really nice article/interview on one of Jim's assistants-
Kyle Vogt - who helped lead Bradley to success here almost a decade ago..LINK

Jim Les' name already the top name being mentioned for Mountain West's Fresno State- LINK
They are currently paying their head coach Rodney Terry (who is not on the hot seat but who is expected to be a candidate to get hired away to a larger school after 3 consecutive 20-win seasons and 4 out of the last 5 with 20+) - over $600K -
...also a mention at Iowa and DePaul - should those spots open up...

Nice interview...
Coach Les doing such a great job and having an incredibly great time with his players...

They joked with him about the dance he did after the victory..
He talked about recovering from the loss of their best player..
...talks about how self-less his players are

...talked a little about the strategy for their tournament, his players, and how he's still learning and improving in his 16th season as a coach...
..also the ESPN guys heaped praise on how the UC-Davis program has improved under Coach Les - 3 20-win seasons in the last 4 years and 3 post-season appearances...

UCD's leading scorer so far with 12 points is Joe Mooney, a 2015 grad of Notre Dame College Prep (formerly Niles Notre Dame), which is the high school Tom Les and Jim Les went to. And he was coached in high school by Tom Les. The reason I mention it is that I heard from a reliable source that when Joe Mooney was in high school, he was one of the best 3-point shooters in the state. His AAU coach tried to get Bradley coaches interested in him, but they were never interested and passed on recruiting him. Too bad. Our previous staff passed on a number of kids who they overlooked (see Alec Peters). Mooney is now a redshirt sophomore and a 40% three point shooter. He is 2-3 from three so far today.

UC-Davis wins 70-66 after a flurry of 3's today and advances to the semi's of the Big West Championship

and YESSSSS - Creighton lost, too!!

one more note- leading scorer was Joe Mooney, 15 pts, 2 steals - a kid from Wauconda that every school in the midwest passed on but Jim Les recruited him (from his brother Tom Les' team at Notre Dame HS)...plus, he's a straight A student

Fullerton beat Long Beach so if the other two higher seeds also win, then UC-Davis will face Fullerton Friday in one of the semi's
I know there are those who criticize Les, but you can't deny his tremendous level of success since moving on to UC-Davis....and this time around he will again get higher offers.

tough break for the Aggies- they shoot poorly and miss a lot of FTs down the stretch and get nipped by Fullerton..
so UC-Davis is headed to the NIT -

I just read where UC-Davis losing might just lock up the very NIT slot for UC-Davis which might have otherwise gone to ISU...

Looks like another NIT bid was just stolen....UMBC upset the overwhelming favorite from the American East Conference, Vermont
UMBC 85 Vermont 82-
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore?gameId=401020723

UMBC gets the automatic bid. They have an RPI of 116, and had no hope for an NCAA or NIT bid going into the game. Vermont has an RPI of 59, and has no chance at an at-large NCAA bid with their extremely weak SOS and no signature wins. So they appear to be headed to an NIT bid as the winner of the regular season title in the American East.
That now makes 10 NIT bid-stealers caused by conference tournament upsets.
