Jordan Prosser

If that's the case, let him RS. Play Phillips.

I love this idea....especially if DSE can make it back in three or four weeks. The hope is that with rest, DSE can be back in uniform on Jan 1st. If (a big if) this can happen their is absolutely no reason to bring Jake off of redshirt at this point.....Ryan can fill the spot for a game or two.

Agreed...especially since he's hurt. I still question why they even mentioned it. Maybe they had to for NCAA reasons....but since they can still r/s him why not wait to say anything until he's ready to go.

Then IF he's ready to go....make the announcement and let him play as warranted.

Dogs, do you see why many fans think those who criticize the coaches do so gratuitously. It's a no win situation for the coaches, whatever they do, they get criticized by all the experts with a keyboard.

Because of DSE's injury, the team wanted the media to know that Jake was available to play in an emergency. They made it clear that Jake's ankle sprain would likely keep him out of the game, but he was dressed and available if foul trouble resulted in an unlikely situation where they needed another player to take the floor. If that had happened, and no announcement was made before the game, media and some fans would have been up in arms over the "deception". But by not playing Jake, there is no harm done to anyone. Everyone expected he wouldn't play, and his redshirt is still an open option.

With everything else that's being criticized, and all the second-guessing, I just don't see this is any big deal either way, but I think they did the right thing in being open and honest about what was happening with DSE and JE.
Can't the coaching staff make a single decision without being lambasted?

They are getting paid good money to do their jobs and to get lambasted by pseudo-coaches. I agree with you in this situation though.

If coach Les hadn't mentioned bringing JE off the redshirt, and then put him in a game, would it have been "deceiving" and "unethical"? I seem to recall multiple conversations about coaches lying when it comes to player availability, and JL being called out numerous times.

Nope! If we lose tomorrow we'll be 5-5 in what many called an easy non-conference schedule, not me. And I hope we don't lose tomorrow. But any school that I went to, if there are 10 questions on a test/quiz and you only get 5 right that's a D and you hope the teacher likes you to get it. I like JL, so if we lose tomorrow I'll give him/players a C- for going 5-5 and winning one big game. And if that happens (losing tomorrow) and then opening the MVC season at Drake and losing, there will be many, many questions asked and rightfully so.

Haha in my academic career a 50% has never been higher than a F. The test is about 29 to 30some questions though not 10:wink:

I was also just agreeing with DaCoach that people sometimes nitpick at the coaching staff for things that really have nothing to do with our record, like how something was said or announced or everything really...I'm not saying our record is good or unquestionable right now.

But while we're on that I think I've stated something like this before; I'll wait until the whole test is graded before giving out a grade. I think any student would appreciate this cause they could've done good on the rest of the test and just bad on the first page;-) Just because you have a 5/9 on the first page doesn't mean you will get that on the whole test nor should a teacher assume that's what you got and not grade the rest.

If I remember right we were 21-17 last season? So that's 38 test questions. So we got 21 out of 38 right. 21 divided by 38 = .5526... Good for a baseball team that plays 162 games but not good for a college team that plays 38 games. I gave JL a C- last season, and again I must say I like him, for only getting a little more than 50% right. And I got a light slap on the wrist for the C- rating.

I think its a bit of paranoia by those FEW, not many, that think everything is a criticism. And are those that ask questions any more or less "experts" then those that defend?

I asked a simple question..."why did it have to be announced." I didn't say I disagreed or thought JL should be fired becuase of it...nor am I jumping ship.

I simply wondered IF there was a reason for it to be announced when the possibility of recsinding it was still available.

People who are "in charge"...people who get into this type of business and others understand ahead of time that decisions will be scrutinized by those that also support them.

I am also critical of my gov't, those that run the business I work for and of many more things that I have a vested interest in.

As long as this program stuggles to move beyond mediocrity in the eyes of many there is going to be alot of second guessing by the masses.

As MO said..."BU, land of 10,000 coaches." Allthough those were just the PAID numbers...it was more like 6500. :)

See...good answer and all that I was looking for.

True but this "test" is a 8 year one...not a one year mini quiz. I have it graded as a C and oure grades are sliping so far. ANY parent or teacher would notice this and take action....not sit back and wait until its to late at seasons end.

And the teacher (JL) I'm sure is noticing and making adjustments or "taking action" with his players must like he did last year. No teacher (coach) is going to sit back and do nothing while his students (players) are struggling. So by year's ends we will see if the teacher (coach) did a good job with this year's students (players) or not, but we won't know until the final exam. So I'm sure concerns are noted, and I am positive JL is not sitting back doing nothing. I have confidence he will succeed.

In my sales career 50% win rate would be an exceptional win rate. :D

Let's all face it if JL does not produce some tangible results by the end of next year all bets are off and the pressure will be there. Then again there is a new AD in town and the Board is giving the Prez some latitude that we have not seen before at BU!

I suppose some could make that case, but I would disagree. I believe Coach Les, with all his years of experience playing and coaching basketball, is knowledgeable, qualified, and capable of evaluating talent, including big men. In fact, I would love to know what the qualifications are of those who gratuitously rip on him for every facet of his job.

The example you gave of Sam Singh not progressing is hardly fair- could it have something to do with his 2 lost seasons due to injury, 2 major knee reconstructions which slow him down, and prevent him from jumping much, and a shoulder reconstruction, too?

I could name other big men who did progress under Jim Les-
Will Egolf, Taylor Brown, Theron Wilson, Matt Salley, Zach Andrews, Patrick O'Bryant, Marcellus Sommerville, Anthony Thompson and Milos Knezevic. I think we'll continue to see AT, Milos, and Jordan Prosser progress in the future.

You're just further proving my point...all the bigs you list had capable experienced assistants to further their development...who does Les have now, some high school coach with zero exp?! As for my qualifications, I have none, that's why I'm not paid the hefty salary Jim is and why that automatically allows people to question and scrutinize those whose job it is to win and develop their players.

So he gets no credit for any player that develops under him, because someone else must always have been responsible? But he gets all the blame for Sam Singh not reaching stardom, despite the fact Sam's injury problems were clearly the biggest reason.

You just proved my point- that Jim Les can't win- his critics absolutely refuse to grant him the slightest credit for anything positive that's happened (2006 was all because of Chuck B, right?:)), but pick at everything they see that's negative and heap all the blame on him.
I suppose you blame Jim Les for Dodie Dunson's injury?

He gets too much credit when things go well, and too much blame when things go poorly. Such is the nature of the job no matter where one is at. His record is what his record is, and it's pretty average.

As usual, BB you are right, and your asessment is fair, and I agree. But the constant criticism of minutia like which players he plays in which rotation, and what direction he looks at during timeouts, is ridiculous.
And his critics would have a bit of credibility if they at least granted him some credit for the positives the program has had.

Does anyone know how Jordan is doing in practice? How does he compare to what we are putting on the floor, how is his strength developing, what's the story?

I was wondering the same thing today when I was in Eureka, hopefully someone that has an inside source will know how Jordan has been doing in practice.
