Even if the NCAA waived the scholarship limit for one year to accommodate the addition of all these players affected, that would only create more problems. Schools' rosters could explode to 18, 19, 20 or more. Some schools may not want every eligible player back. Some returning seniors might want the opportunity to transfer, since they weren't able to take part in the transfer portal window at the time it was open (April 7-21). And other players already on schools' rosters might be crowded out and also want a chance to transfer now. So then the NCAA might have to reopen the transfer portal and it would start a recruiting feeding frenzy for coaches to recruit these newly eligible players.

the early opinions being expressed are that all the DI coaches who "played by the rules" and have now built their rosters,
or who have utilized all their scholarships - they are kinda screwed - while the coaches who lagged behind and have open scholarships
or coaches who will be willing to yank scholarships and boot the guys at the bottom of the roster - those guys will have a field day with
all the suddenly eligible, talented veteran players who are going to flood the market.
The only fair thing for NCAA to do is to issue waivers so the 5th year guys don't count against scholarship limits.

But most people are quite sure that NCAA is going to immediately appeal to a higher court and ask for an emergency stay in allowing this injunction.

FWIW- lots of other top talent from the MVC are also now suddenly eligible for 2026-27...
