Legendary Bradley basketball coach Joe Stowell passes away

They need to name floor at Ren-Col after him - he coached both men's & women's BKB and
nobody touched more lives and influenced more Bradley fans than Joe.

Joe coached 344 men's games (197-147) and 27 NCAA DI women's games (13-14) - but Joe was 33-22 overall with the women counting the games before they were ushered into DI
How about the "Joe Stowell Ren-Col"
Better then just the floor

If I had a vote in the matter, I would name it Stowell Memorial Fieldhouse since he played and coached the majority of his life at the Fieldhouse where Renaissance currently stands. Just my humble opinion on the matter.

Just an FYI
Altho a certain past BU Prez claimed and took credit for building and naming Renaissance Coliseum,
it is undeniable that the Renaissance Committee that was formed to explore the demolition of the old Fieldhouse
and build the new arena was commissioned in 2006 long before JKG was even on the horizon.
I have a copy of the Hilltopics Mag that discusses it and the likelihood that the arena would thus be named the Renaissance Arena.
By 2007 fundraising was well on the way.
(perhaps some recall that the blueprints and plans for the new arena were displayed right outside Jim Les' office in the old
Fieldhouse - yet Kirk wessler numerous times wrote whiney columns about how nobody was telling anyone what
was going on as Bradley bought then razed the homes on Maplewood where Kirk's family lived.
He never bothered to walk across the street and look at the plans, he just bitched that nobody had consulted him)

Here's a quote from an online source, I can give the reference if you need it:
"the first public event revealing the name "Renaissance" associated with this giving campaign that was already underway...was in 2007....
"Bradley University’s faculty, staff and emeriti gather for the Campaign for a Bradley Renaissance kickoff event in November 2007"

....The campaign was already up and running ....as far back as 2006 !!...
(this was actually discussed here on Bradleyfans back then but the link to it no longer works-
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showpost.php?p=11456&postcount=18)

-The BU's fundraising campaign and the full plans for the new construction including the arena (that was
initially intended to be named "Renaissance Arena") - .. were the topic of discussion on this message board
as far back as 2005-2006...so it was already underway then...

The Campaign for a Bradley Renaissance, Bradley's $150 million fundraising effort, was first announced in April, 2008 by Joanne Glasser (who was hired August, 2007), though, yes, it was in the works for a couple years prior to being officially announced. The planning and much of the early donations, including the $30 million Caterpillar pledge, were already secured by previous BU President David Broski. I actually had a discussion with Pres. Broski about these details, because some of the facts were later reported incorrectly, and his successor took credit for things that were done by Broski (like the Caterpillar pledge).

This article outlines the time line-

But there is no evidence that there was ever any plan or commitment to the name "Renaissance Coliseum" until 2010. There had been efforts to land naming rights, and those efforts continue today, but the name "Renaissance Coliseum" was chosen by Glasser herself and announced on October 15, 2010-

Why not name it after Forddy Anderson who had to fill big shoes, yet took BU to two NCAA championship games an NIT championship game, and a #1 national ranking, or Chuck Orsborn who won three of BU's four NIT titles (when the NIT meant something) and had BU consistently ranked in the top ten? Unfortunately, most people, nowadays, don't remember either of these coaches.

Forddy was a good guy
But not a BU lifer like Joe
Fair enough, but would you consider Ozzie a lifer? Played for AJ Robertson on the Famous Five, assistant coach, head coach, AD. He didn't spend as many years affiliated with BU as did Stowell, but he did spend a good portion of his adult life connected to BU in some capacity.

Pay no attention to anything I say or post as I'm usually clueless and wind up with egg on my face.
not at all, I appreciate your ideas- and I suspect BU is awaiting some opportunity for naming rights for the court that can result in $

So is your guess that Bradley will name an award after Stowell rather than naming Ren Col or the floor after him? That makes sense if you think you can get a sponsor for naming rights.

My edit: I just remembered that Bradley already has the Joe Stowell award. What, if anything, do you think Bradley might do to additionally honor Coach Stowell?
