Leon Powell-Future Brave?

The Saluki fan site had a chat with a couple of recruiting.com guys.
One was from ilprepbullseye.com.. not sure where the other was from.

One of them said Bradley just offered Leon Powell from Indian Hills CC.
BU recruited him out of high school when he played at Vashion in St. Louis.. but he did not qualify (an '07 recruit).
So far this is Powell's only offer and which ever guy brought it up said he thought Powell would take it.

Powell is listed at 6'7" 210 lbs on the Indian Hills site.
In December one of the moderators posted this:
"averaging at 11.5 ppg and 6.4 rpg Indian Hills juco"
I checked his stats over the last several games and it is feast or famine.. 16 points, 2 points, 23 points, 6 points.. you get the idea.

During his HS recruitment he narrowed his list down to BU, SLU, & Mo ST.

I don't know how good the dot com guy's sources are.. but I just thought I'd pass this along.

BU was recruiting Leon Powell and and I believe really wanted him when he was a senior in HS>
But that was before we had Will Egolf, Anthony Thompson, Jordan Prosser commitment, Milos Knezevic commitment, and John Wilkins commitment.
So I would have to be kinda doubtful that we would use one of our remaining scholarships for 2009 on another forward, but it wouldn't be the first time something surprised me.
But I also saw a comment by someone else a few weeks back about BU after Powell...and the words used made me think the guy had simply seen this.........

which hasn't changed in TWO YEARS, and simply details the offer from two years ago!

I'd be kind of surprised as well since this guy sounds more like a banger than a shooter. Like I said I don't know his source.. he just said the Braves offered recently like in the last week or two.

I think we need a JuCo big to come in on scholarship next year. Our only juniors and seniors on next years roster will be guards, and our most experienced post player played in 4 games this year and will be back from ACL injury. Use one scholly on a lights out shooter, and the other on a JuCo big.

I wish he was 6'8 or 6'9", but I am gonna say something that half the board will disagree with.If we could just get Matt Salley like performance out of a JUCO transfer inside next year it would be great. I know he wasn't popular with some, but some defense and rebounding to go along with the talent we have would look great. I don't know much about Powell's game, but he was recruited by some bigger schools than his final three so he must have some talent.

I'm on the half of the board that agrees with you. I hated MS at times last year, but now I miss him so much. He was a big physical presence that could bang around down low, played with fire (a little too much at times), and while he may not have been bigger than every opposing big man, he sure as heck didn't get pushed off the block like AT and WE will and DC does. You knew you could count on him for 6 and 6, often more, and that was enough.

Anyone wonder how much PT Rashad Austin would have gotten this year???

I'm with most of you guys also, I was a big MS basher but he brought a tough attitude that our bigs lack this year. I was a convert towards the end of the year though. I'd take a another MS but with larger hands so he could hang on to the ball.

Another Salley would be terrific assuming that the talent we already have is going to lead the team down low. We'll need a glue-guy in the paint to add a physical presence.

That was me talking about Powell. There was a thread about getting a juco forward to help ease the loss of Theron, and I suggested Powell, knowing BU was recruiting him out of HS. Maybe JL and Co. are thinking the same thing....

I'll take the Matt Salley of the last half of his senior year. Before that... yikes...

Salley was also quite good for most of his JR season. Salley was a smaller 5 playing on a very small team... That's a tough spot to be in, and I can't think of how many times I was missing Matt Salley this year.

I'll give MS props for this....he was told he would be a 4 when he came here and hadn't played center since high school...so for playing out of position for a couple years KUDOS to Matt! :D

Rumor is that Leon will have some difficulty graduating from his Junior College, and most believe his college career will continue in Division II.

If Bradley does get him, he is an excellent player.

A big, strong, inside physical guy would fit well with this team. Egolf is the only post player on the roster with "experience" next season. If the Powell kid would come in next year I would be all for it.

It sounds like Milos is more of an outside/in guy, same with Egolf. And John Wilkins is a huge question mark. Getting a JUCO guy with some attitude would be nice. I didn't dislike Matt Salley as much as some. He had his faults but he did defend, rebound, and provide some interior toughness.

Well...JW will not be here next year. When he comes it will be in the '10-'11 season after he gets his degree from JUCO.

Also I think some have a misinterpretation of this guy. He's not a big guy that plays down low like a center. He's like a TW where he stays out on the perimeter and drives or is a wing man.

I say if the coaches are completely confident in the 5 spot for next season then get Powell because TB isn't QUITE the same as TW and it'd be nice to get someone that can do what Theron does. If they aren't confident in WE, AT or the freshman coming in then they need a 5 player from JUCO.

A sharp shooter is needed though no one doubts that.
