Man we have some work to do.
AW looked smooth.... and I liked TB's game.
Man we have some work to do.
These exhibitions are NEVER anything to either celebrate or worry about. Listened to the audio . . . sounds like a lot of experimentation. That's what I'd expect. BU will be deep. Probably not gonna win at BYU. But we'll see.
B-10 we'd have won easily by 20 if we just went with starters like Lewis did and like SIU did..
Lewis basically played their top 7 guys the whole way...our subs in the first half accounted for half the minutes!
but Coach Les went with 12 different players and a million different combinations of players on the floor at once....and that was just the 1st half!!
In the 2nd half he not only went with 13 different players, but he went with all four freshmen down the stretch when our starters would have stretched the lead from 12-15 all the way into the 20's and it was a smart move to give the freshmen prime minutes!
T, my thoughts on this game are fairly similar to yours. IMHO, playing the freshman down the strecth was extremely gutsy! I heard on WMBD on the way home that the most minutes that our experienced players had was 24 minutes. Notre Dame's starters logged around 30 minutes in their game against Lewis. My main statement is that I think that JP should have logged more minutes with the experienced lineup especially when WE had 2 early fouls. We also need to work on feeding the ball to the post players. Yes we have some work to do, but if anyone was scouting this game, they had and have their work cut out for them!![]()
I agree with all you have said here. But I to think there is a lot of work to be done by Friday! If there was one area of disappointment it was at the point! Sammy didn't have his O game going (it will come) but I thought the team ran better with him at the point:!: He also played really good D, having 4 steals and a bunch of defections. I was disappointed with EM's game! I would not be at all surprised to see a different starting line-up come Friday. Five days and we shall see.I thought it went well for an early season exhibition. Lewis is a well coached team. I heard Scott Trost (Lewis coach) say he was disappinted with his team's execution and shooting, and I can understand that, but he has a number of solid players and will do well in their conference.
The missed shots and turnovers, and illegal screens will get fixed.
I saw great energy from TB and WE, better than I've seen from interior players at BU in several years. I thought the freshmen looked good for freshmen.
And I don't know why things didn't go well with EM at the point, but it seemed to turn around with Sam M. at the point. Probably the guys who had the worst games were the 3 seniors. That won't happen again.
I am sure there will be people who'll look only at the score and say BU is weak and we played poorly...
and believe me, we do have smoe areas for improvement...but I suspect Coach JL never felt scared he was going to lose...he never made any panic moves or reinserted the starters..
he knew what he was doing and it'll pay off in the long run...

From my perspective, it appeared that Milos must have earned the right to be the first of the freshmen off the bench and into the game. He appears to be a little ahead of JP so far. All the freshmen looked a little nervous at first, and I am sure they'll get over that quickly.
