Lineup

I don't ask this to criticize or question the coaching staff.....moreso I'm just asking to hear why everyone thinks it is NOT our starting lineup.

Collins
Salley
Ruf
JC
Wilson

Still quick with a low post presence. Possible scoring punch off the bench with Warren and Egolf, SS to spell 4 and 5 spot.

I realize the starting lineup is just that and the game dictates the matchups but Ruf, JC and Wilson can all drive and dish. Defense wise you have to bigs that can trap down low and help if our guards get beat to the basket.

Just wondering what everyone thought JL's reasoning is/was.

I think a new starting lineup is needed. As evidenced by the last several games, the current starting lineup is not getting the games off to good starts ... in fact, they're getting off to miserable starts.

Not a knock on any players individually, but as a group of five, they are just not getting the job done.

I would like to see DC get some more minutes.....I have noticed that SS minutes have gone down lately? Does anyone else think the coach's would like RA to red/shirt......I cannot come up with a reason for him not to get any minutes unles there is something else not known.....come-on the game shape stuff is hard to by this far into the season for me....he seems real atheletic and he cannot take any more time adjusting to the game than WE or TCS? Is it lack of something or what? For years we have longed for someone with a body like RA's to fill the paint....I just want to know why?

I thought the Austin thing has been addressed? Jim Les said he's going with a 10-man rotation, which is fairly standard for teams with enough depth to do it. Austin has been the 11th man, so that's why he isn't playing. There isn't anyone that has played consistently poorly enough that would make me want the rotation to be changed.

As for the lineup, I'd rather have Collins starting, even his stamina forces him to be taken out at the 1st official timeout. I also think that the reason we haven't seen a lineup DRU is suggesting is because A. the matchups haven't usually dictated it and B. (and more importantly) Les has had success running 3 (and even 4!) guard offenses. He realizes our biggest strength is outside shooting and he likes having enough shooters out there. Wilson is the only guy you could even think of flexing to be a 3 with two bigger guys, but with how good of a rebounder he is, I think it's preferred he stays down low.

Just my thoughts...

A true point (Ruffin) needs 4 above average offensive players or one or more superstars. (Above average means 10ppg with occasional 20 ppg)

Despite the 40 minutes projections, I think that lineup would be dead offensivelly.

I think that Wilson should be brought off the bench as his production seems to be later (much like Boogie) But I do not think that Egolf is ready. It might be interesting to see Singh and Collins or Singh and Salley start?

What exactly is the protocol to redshirt a juco transfer that has already seen game action?

If it's not possible and he doesn't get any playing time over true freshmen, then I think it's a complete waste of talent. It is amazing this team is so deep without even using their last scholarship!

Well just looking at next season.....MS will be gone, SS will never be able to give a lot of minutes IMO, DC is back and AT will be ready to play but to our knowledge no other Bigs are set up as of yet to come here next season unles a JUCO big is on the horizon? RA hs only played like 5 minutes ....right?

I like the idea, but would start Warren and have Salley coming off the bench.

OK......RA has played a total of 6 mnutes this season in 1 game....isn't the cut-off 6 games?

I don't know the rules for red shirting, but guy that needs to take charge of the situation is RA himself. Your college playing career only comes around once.

Perhaps RA and JL have had the man-to-man talk. If not, then RA needs to ask JL what it is going to take to get some playing time. I know the answer is obvious, but the value is in having the discussion. If RA is unlikely to get playing time because he really is the 11th man, then he requests to red-shirt. If it has to do with something other than talent, then he requests to transfer.

Not sure how current this information is, but it doesn't say anything about juco transfers.

The term "redshirt" is used to describe a student-athlete who does not participate in competition in a sport for an entire academic year. If you do not compete in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition. For example, if you are a qualifier, and you attend a four-year college your freshman year, and you practice but do not compete against outside competition, you would still have the next four years to play four seasons of competition.

Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you. You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.

True, Austin is not qualified for a regular redshirt year since he appeared in a game.

However, a medical redshirt is different. He needs to have a certified medical condition that prohibits him from playing. Then Bradley would have to keep him out of any further games, and apply to the NCAA to be granted a redshirt year. If the NCAA accepts the info submitted, they would grant an extra year of eligibility.

Ok, Da Coach you dont usually say things like that for no reason. So whats wrong with him?

I was only responding to the question of whether someone like Austin could redshirt. To my knowledge, he doesn't have any injuries. He is just behind too many other big guys.

I have to wonder if Austin will even be here after semester break as he is not playing at all and there is no talk of redshirting him, I don"t get it as he was highly touted by the coaching staff and is a jc transfer so at this moment seems to be a wasted recruit; anyone see if he does anything in practice?

He wasn't working hard at the begining of the year and didn't earn a spot in the rotation. It's pretty simple you don't work hard you don't play.

I think the lineup should be
Ruf
JC
Wilson
DC
either Salley or Warren depending on what team we are playing. I think playing a big team like Mich St we might have to go with Salley and DC in there at the same time. With most teams though I think Warren should be the guy playing. I just wish he would be aggressive every game and drive to the basket instead of settling for the 3 pointer which hasnt gone down as much as I would like. Egolf is not ready to start but I would like to see him continuing to get more minutes as the season progressees.

Whats the deal with TCS?? When is the 3-point specialist going to knock down some shots??
