Loyola is 6-2 and RPI 40!

I'm just going to say one thing. Loyola is still the only D1 men's basketball team from the State of Illinois to ever win a NCAA Championship game and I'm proud of it.

but have any Illinois teams played in the Championship Game more than once?

Might as well get the obvious out of the way....

The BU-Loyola game is setting up to be another classic "trap game" for BU at home, coming off of a week of classes/tests, and BU looking forward to their road game vs the other ISU - Iowa State. ;) ;)

Given BU's penchant for playing down to the level of their opponents, and the demise of home court intimidation for BU, this game could go down to the wire.

I thought I would put out an advance excuse in case BU doesn't prevail at home against another team with a mighty RPI...

This is comical...Loyola is absolutely horrible...and their RPI of 40 means absolutely nothing...
They are picked to finish dead last in the Horizon League this year...
They have played one decent team thus far, and that team, K-State, beat them by 38 points...

Their RPI will be closer to 200 than 100 when all is said and done...so no, this won't be a quality win for BU, this won't help our precious SoS, it's just a game we have to win to avoid being embarrassed...

Amen to the above. I'll also add it would be nice to put a team away and keep them there for a change. Time to develop a spine boys!

isn't this exactly what some people said about Western Carolina when they came into Peoria?
Now they have won at Louisville, are 10-1, and have an RPI of 14.

This doesn't mean they will end up the 14th best team at the end of the seaosn, which is how most objectors misinterpret what this is all about, but WCU is a very good team.
They have played a SOS #51 with five road games, so they are not doing it with smoke and mirrors and a SOS of 345!

louisville got whacked by Charlotte by 22 the game before...they are a shell of what they were in recent years. The chuck a 3 and hope will work in Socon play so in the end, they'll have a gaudy W-L mark. As for Loyola, they have beaten no one and have zero depth returning from last year where WCU had juniors and seniors. a loss to Loyola and we might as well find some other sport to watch this winter.

WCU and Loyola have nothing in common.

WCU was a decent team that returned all of their starters and are picked to win their conference.

Loyola is none of these things...they are a lousy team that has beaten no one and is picked to finish dead last in their league...

Losing to WCU at home should not have happened after being up ten in the second half of that game, but it is not a total disgrace.

Losing at home to Loyola, on the other hand, would be a total disaster, an absolute embarrassment, the worst home loss in recent memory.

Well said fellas! Bravo! :!: :) :)

We MUST NOT lose to Loyola at Home! :!: Even I will have a meltdown:eek:

Just saw that W. Carolina now has the #10 RPI. Regardless of the team's name, if you were to tell me that BU lost at home to the team ranked #10 in the RPI, there is no way I could possibly consider calling that a bad loss.

They are a much stronger team than Loyola.

Well you would think otherwise the way some here are reacting to that loss! :D

W.Carolina has a good team, the loss was a bad one because BU had a 10 point lead in the 2nd half at home and lost(this should not happen to a team with the talent that we have) , Loyola is not W.Carolina and we need to start putting teams away , a 15 to 20 point win would show that we have learned a valuable lesson in that you cannot let teams hang around or you may end up losing, hopefully our loss has taught us a valuable lesson.

WHAT:-o I have season tickets:? What would I do with them:doubt: If we lose, can't we just blame it on injuries:eek::oops: -- JK:lol: We're NOT going to lose:!:

I am in agreement with this statement.

I just hope we win this one, regardless! An ex-GF use to go there when I was at BU and to this day I feel much happier when we beat them.:-D

If they did, it was because they weren't very knowledgable fans and were basing it solely off the team name. WCU was co-champion of their half of the Southern Conference last season and returned all 5 starters this season. It was pretty obvious that they would be a tough foe. Loyola on the other hand was dreadful last year, and looked to be the same this year. As of mid-December, they still look like a bottom feeder Horizon League team to me and many others. In the eyes of the RPI, they are easily a top 2 Horizon League team...far better than the Green Bay team that already blew them out of the water.

Of course, the RPI also tells us that UNC is only 9th best in the ACC, Michigan State is only 6th best in the Big 10, and Michigan is quite a bit worse than the hapless Iowa Hawkeyes whom I have seen several times this season. Oh and those impressive narrow victories Southern Miss has over La-Lafayette and Montana State clearly makes them the team to beat in C-USA, ahead of Memphis and a loaded Tulsa team.

Southern Miss. has an RPI of 12.....

ER - you jinxed them....

although Southern Miss' RPI of 12 was a total charade since they had scheduled so incredibly softly - even worse than ISU, as Eustachy included four NAIA teams on his schedule.......

BUT -- karma abounds....and Larry Eustachy has gotten his comeuppance...

no sooner did they reach that lofty RPI then they've LOST their last FOUR games that they've played against D-I opponents....(they did win one in that interval against NAIA Dillard)..

so with four straight losses to the likes of Canisius, North Florida, Vandy (40-pt loss), and Marshall, they're gonna fall off the RPI chart into the abyss of 200+ RPI teams, where they belong.
