Loyola loses to Chicago State

Hard to believe some of the accolades recently thrown at Loyola coach Drew Valentine. These are all from just the past year-

And his name has been mentioned for some high major jobs-

... and there were others

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that the Final 4 Ramblers just 7 seasons ago would sink this low.
Maybe they come out of it, but doesn't look good this season. The program feels like ours did at some points thru the Geno experiment yrs.
Never should have left the Valley - they would still be contending for titles and the BU-Loyola rivalry would have gotten stronger. But they had their rea$on$ to leave. I hope BU (in my lifetime) never goes to a conference where the schools are spread out so much regionally.

I dont have any sympathy for them. I get tired of teams get in to the Missouri Valley, make a name for themselves then think they would be better off in greener pastures.
The new college basketball landscape in the last 5-6 years has hurt the teams that left mid-major conferences like the MVC looking for "greener pastures". Just being in a "better" conference doesn't guarantee greater success any more. The transfer portal and especially the amount of NIL money you have are now the biggest factors in building a program.
Former MVC schools like Wichita State (NET 93), Creighton (NET 112), Missouri State (NET 292), Loyola (NET 348) are no longer guaranteed NCAA bids or winning programs just by "moving up".

Creighton at 112 is a surprise to me. They've had some good success since leaving, and for me they're the only one that I don't hold a grudge against. The others can fall further as far as I'm concerned.
