They are proposing at the Division II level to give ALL ATHLETES
FIVE full seasons of eligibility (plus allow medical waivers).....
This will be interesting, because maybe NCAA Division I will follow suit, but if they don't, then will many DI athletes in various sports
(basketball, baseball, golf, etc...) transfer to DII when their eligibility expires at DI and gobble up all the scholarships?
Part of their reasoning involves this:
"Data ....showed a shift over the years that more student-athletes are taking longer to graduate."
(so, they're not as bright and they take five years to get their degree, so let's reward them with an additional year of eligibility!)
