Marquette to name assistant Buzz Williams as new coach

I don't like this hire.

Not a lot of people in Milwaukee are happy about it. One bad hire can set you back 5-10 years in the Big East, so this move is really a huge gamble. If MU's recruits end up leaving anyways, the hire looks even worse.
 
This writer's blog says Marquette's top choice was Tony Bennett from Washington State, but he turned them down.
Other candidates were reportedly Xavier's Sean Miller, Virginia Commonwealth's Anthony Grant and Davidson's Bob McKillop, and Georgia Tech's Paul Hewitt, and SIU's Chris Lowery.

But this writer also says there was interest "by people representing Siena's Fran McCaffery, Bradley's Jim Les and Illinois' Bruce Weber".

Just like most of the posters on this board Les would have been a FOOL not to have at least looked into this job. It's always smart to "float" your resume when opportunities arise............It doesn't mean you're seriously interested but that you are open to listen (Bill Self example). I love my job but if someone made me an offer to come work for them and it would substantially better take care of me and my family financially I'd at least listen (with very keen interest ;) )
