Matt Roth AAU

New member
The 2007 AAU basketball season kicks off this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas with the Real Deal on the Hill.
http://www.realdealonthehill.com/

National recruiting expert/guru, Van Coleman has named Matt Roth one of the top players to watch at this event.
This year Matt is not playing on a team full of other high school superstars, and should garner even more individual attention.
http://hoopmasters.com/

Matt Roth's team (Indiana Elite) was the winner of the 16U title last season in this event,
and one of his teammates Emmanuel Negedu was named the MVP of the event,
and Decatur Eisenhower's Jeremy Robinson had a very good tourney, too as did Matt.

The rosters are not online, but here are a few of the notable players and the teams they are with:

Indiana Elite-Simpson- Matt Roth

Indiana Elite/Team Indiana- Emmanual Negedu, Beas Hamga, Lewis Jackson, Walter Offutt (going to Ohio State), Tyler Zeller.

Several Peoria kids are playing 15U with the Peoria Carver team.

Here are some results from last night's games:

Indiana Elite 72 - World Renegades 60
Indiana Elite's DeAndre Liggins was mobbed by several of the present Arkansas players...
"As for his recruitment, a hoard of Arkansas players, who are presently without a coaching staff, were on hand to recruit Liggins who is considering Arkansas, Illinois, Memphis, Purdue, Miami and Wake Forest. The old coaching staff at Arkansas had offered a scholarship, along with Illinois and Memphis."

Tyler Zeller had 16 points, Emmanuel Negedu had 7 rebs.

More fom another source:

"Tyler Zeller, PF, Indy Elite ???‚¬??? From a production standpoint Zeller, whose brother, Luke, plays at Notre Dame, probably got the most done out of anyone we saw today. He???‚¬?„?s fundamentally sound, runs the floor and just flat out plays hard. Not many players have the feel for the game Zeller does and he possesses a great touch around the basket. He even hit a turnaround floater and made a nice move on the block for a bucket. High-majors will look and likely bite on the 6-foot-10, 210-pounder."

...............Zeller

Matt Roth's team apparently didn't play last night, as I cannot find any reports.
Rivals doesn't give Matt much respect with this staement in their report:
"Matt Roth, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Peoria (Ill.) High School."

Here is a more extensive list of notable players and their teams:

Arkansas Hawks- Michael Sanchez, Clarence Trent, Andre Clark (6???‚¬?„?9)

Sorry to hijack part of this thread, but I was wondering if LA Pomlee is listed on a AAU team? He sounded like a player that had high major talent that we may be able to steal because of medical issues. The last I heard was he couldn't play his whole junior year, but may be able to play AAU ball.

LA Pomlee developed a blood clot in his leg in September of 2006.
He was treated by placing him on blood thinners and has been unable to play all season.
The general length of treatment for this disorder is 6 months on a blood thinner, so he might be ready to come off the thinner and begin playing again soon, but I haven't heard anything.

In past years he has played AAU for Martin Brothers out of Iowa, and this article says he'll play for Martin Bros. again this summer.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/recruiting/basketball/national/2007-04-05-basketball.htm

Martin Brothers does not have a team entered in the Real Deal.

Martin Bros. is playing at the Boo Williams event, and one of the premium recruiting services said this about him...........

scout/insider...Dave Telep.........

"Teams We Saw ???‚¬??? Memphis YOMCA, Martin Bros. Select, West Coast All-Stars, Team Final, King of the Court, Jackson Tigers, New York Gauchos, SYF Players.

..."Kudos to L.A. Pomlee who is coming off an injury. He showed off a shot blocking element to his game Friday night. He sent back a last second shot only to have a guy get off the game winner as time expired."

If anyone wants to know more on the big AAU events, let me know, as most of the coverage is by the subscription services, but I can pass on any info you'd like.

Mrcoachdude, I really don't know for sure, as the Indiana Elite/Team Indiana is getting all the press in Arkansas and Matt's team, named Indiana Elite/Simpson, is barely mentioned.

The Indy Elite/Team Indiana won again last night and advanced to the quarterfinals, with Tyler Zellar labelled as the player of the tourney so far.

At the Boo Williams Tournament in Hampton, VA, Tyler Storm and Kevin Dillard are both playing well and getting notice.

I still can't find any comment about Matt Roth, and I am puzzled why he isn't playing with the Team Indiana Elite.

In the meantime, one comment note Bradley is in on a couple players:

"Iowa big man L.A. Pomlee is coming off a year off from the game because of blood clot in his leg. He looked surprisingly fresh for a guy that has been out of the game for while. His recruitment, however, needs some freshening up he said. Bradley and Wisconsin stuck with him this season while he was out. Will new Iowa coach Todd Lickliter make him a priority in state?

Tyler Storm of the Martin Brothers is holding an offer from DePaul and the 6-foot-7 wing said he is hearing from Northern Iowa, Bradley, Illinois State, Creighton, Nevada and a good majority of the Missouri Valley Conference."

Um, BU, UNI, isu-red and CU are almost the majority of the MVC... :-o

Is Roth playing on the same team as Prosser?

I found out that they are not on the same team.

Matt Roth is playing in the 17U division on the Indiana Elite/Simpson team, and Prosser is playing on the 16U Indiana Elite, which by the way won the 16U Championship at the Real deal in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Roth's team must not have done very well, as I was unable to find any mention of them at all, though the Indiana Elite/Team Indiana made it all the way to the semis.
The finals involved two Los Angeles teams (LA Dream team vs. Pump 'N Run) with the PNR team winning the overall title.

The Indiana Elite 17U team played without a couple of its studs this weekend.

Lewis Jackson was absent, rumored to have an ankle sprain.
Beas Hamga reportedly broke a finger and will be unable to play for several weeks.

In the 16U Title game, the Indiana Elite beat the Illinois Stars 69-57.

The Illinois Stars were led by DJ Richardson and James Kenney.
Jordan Prosser played well but the leading scorer on the Indiana Elite was Colt Ryan with 19 and DJ Byrd with 15 ( a couple Indiana kids).

I spoke to James Kinney, and he said that DJ didnt play much, as he was out with an injured finger.
James said that he, Xavier Humphrey, Seth Evans, and Lenzelle smith (freshman) played well

Just this morning, a nice premium service article on LA Pomlee appeared.

Here are a few tidbits, but PM me if you want to know more.

"POMLEE BACK ON THE SCENE"

L.A. Pomlee is playing...with the Martin Brothers Select AAU team. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward from Davenport (Iowa) Central High School has been on the sidelines and did a lot of watching during his junior year.

The three-star forward missed the entire school year because a blood clot in his leg

"I haven't heard from anyone in a long time," Pomlee said.

Schools have backed off over the last six months he said.

Bradley and Wisconsin stuck with him, he said, and now he is hoping he can add more programs, and pick up his first offer, by the end of the month.

Pomlee showed off his athleticism on the defensive end of the floor as a shot-blocker and rebounder at the Boo Williams Invitational."

I know the doctor who treated Pierre Cooper's blot clot situation, and it was similar, although in one respect, a bit different.
Pierre's clots were so extensive that virtually every vein in one of his legs was clotted, and numerous clots had already broken loose and "embolized" to his lungs. Once that degree of vein damage existed, it became virtually impossible to ever play again, which is why Pierre's situation prohibited him from ever returning to the game.
Pomlee's clots were described as only in one vein from the knee level to the ankle, which is of course much, much less extensive and not accompanied by the life threatening complication of the embolization to the lungs.

Imagine how good Bradley would have been had Cooper been able to play; also if West, Buycks, and Crawford sign this fall will we have any room for Roth?
