Matt Roth -- Still Considering BU, SLU, & IU

Matt Roth has informed the schools recruiting him that he is down to 2 final choices, Indiana and St. Louis. He has officially eliminated Bradley.

I u nderstand that he will announce his decision shortly.

If he chooses Indiana I believe he is making a huge mistake if he wants to play much at all ; I can see him transfering after 1 or 2 years because of playing time.

I would have loved to have seen Matt on the Hilltop, he would have been an instant fan favorite.
It'll be interesting to see how he does if he selects the Big Ten,
as the other ten BT coaches didn't think he was worth the scholarship.

Completely agree. I have to say i am pretty surprised he didn't select BU.

OK, since I know where that report was published, and that reporter said he got the info just by picking up and dialing the home phone number of Matt Roth, and talking to Matt,
then I guess I have to ask the obvious question.
Why is it that a reporter that's 300 miles away has this kind of report on Matt Roth way ahead of our local reporters or anyone else in Illinois? And even the message board has it before the local reporters.

This isn't a surprise...I never got the feeling that Matt was serious about BU at all. He hardly ever mentioned BU except to say that they were still on his list. I know a lot of people were high on Matt and really wanted him to come to Bradley. Although it would have been nice to get another "local", I never thought MR was a "must get" type of recruit. JMHO...

Good luck to Matt wherever he ends up.

Well said... I agree with your post.

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed in Matt's apparent decision to eliminate BU. He would have been a fan favorite on the Hilltop for sure.

I would expect him to announce for Indiana now.....the lure of playing in the Big 10 will be too much for him to resist.

Let's not jump to conclusions to soon!!There has nothing official from Matt himself...For all we know Sampson could have text the reporter to leak the info!! Now is'nt that a conspiracy theory!! :x

It will be Indiana.

I wish him luck in Hoosierland and hope makes Bruce Weber very sorry for not recruiting him..... :D

Would have enjoyed seeing him play for us, but I agree that I hope he makes Weber eat that scholarship.

Nothing is yet official, but in case you didn't notice, there is a slightly cryptic hidden message in my top post indicating where i believe Matt will go.

So sneaky.

This would really be quite a surprise if he chose Indiana as most of his comments about SLU have been glowing and he has made numerous visits to the SLU campus.

Choosing IU over SLU would be like changing your mind about getting married as you're walking up the aisle and grabbing the bride's most beautiful bridesmaid and dashing off to Vegas for a quick elopement. :-o

Those kind of marriages rarely work and often end very quickly. If Roth indeed chooses IU I would expect that marriage to end within two years unless this kid turns out to be much better than everyone thinks. And, in that case, hats off to that greasy shyster Sampson 8)

Question for all

Question for all

Is losing Matt R. a real big loss? I know we all want to be selected by every recruit but I question how key he is to our future. Seems to me that we can do better with the scholarship than Matt. I am confident that there are some quality players under the radar that can make a big difference too our future that we can get but it's going to take a lot of work.

I do think that we need to watch what affect losing some good players will have on our staff and their ability to attrack future top players too. I think that being close but not closing the deal could hurt us. We will need to land a big recruit soon in order to validate us.

Having said that I still think we are in good shape but selling the dream will get harder if we don't succeed on the court this year

I think the staff should keep doing exactly what they're doing. Nobody likes "losing out" on a recruit, but it's a remarkable step forward that Bradley is now ROUTINELY being considered by high-profile recruits. Even if we lose those battles, there's not much downside to being mentioned constantly by recruits, recruiting services, and fan message boards. The name is getting out. So even if we lose some more of these battles, I hope we keep fighting them. Sooner or later, one of these kids is going to choose Jim Les.

As for Roth, I said months ago I don't want the kid. That's not meant to slam him, but he's not a good fit for BU.

As for the future, Maniscalco, Egolf, Thompson form an exceptional core to build around. That affords BU the luxury of recruiting very deliberately and casting a wide net. It's not like there's some kind of emergency to get that "impact" player on campus; they're already here and will be for the next four years.

i would have liked to see Roth in a bradley uniform, but am not heart broken he won't be coming here. He's a nice player and I wish him the best. I hope he does great at wherever he ends up.
