Matt has received an invitation to the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp

Also from his Indiana Elite team getting an invitation was DeAndre Liggins, and from the Illinois Wolves, Nick Freundt.

It's Iman Shumpert.

Matt Roth had a good outing this past weekend at the Adidas May Classic, and apparently picked up some recruiting interest from Iowa.

"...Indiana Elite, which won the Adidas May Classic over the weekend, got a 32-point, 4 three-point basket effort from Liggins in a game against the SoCal All-Stars. Lewis Jackson (Decatur Eisenhower) and Matt Roth (Washington) also played big roles as Elite rolled to the 17-U title....

Iowa has picked up on the recruiting trail of Class of 2008 Washington star Matt Roth. Roth, a 6-2 shooting guard, is the top shooter in the state of Illinois. I have said many times that if you leave him open from 30 feet in, you can pretty much count the shot.

I have said along that IMO Roth is a major talent and BU would be very lucky to get him. As this off season progresses, I think that the heat is going to turn up and we are going to see more and more programs jump on the band wagon. IF JL can land him, I would consider it the biggest signing of JL's tenure, next to POB!

I hope the staff keeps working on getting Matt Roth in a Brave uniform. The more local kids, the better and he looks like the best area player right now.

Wow - I'd like to remember this claim down the road.

I thought you said you seen him play in an open gym in Washington a few weeks ago and said he wasn't D1 tatent or something like that....????

If someone said that, it definitely wasn't tornado. I know he really likes Roth. I missed it if someone said that.

I think BDS is drinking the orange kool-aid.....

I have also stated that I believe MR can be an impact recruit because of his long-range shooting ability. I continue to stand by that comment.

But to consider his signing the biggest since POB.....even I can't go quite that far! :?

Now Iman Shumpert.....that would be the biggest since POB!

Shumpert would be the biggest get for the program in a long time as far as hype and who else is looking at him. Of course it all means nothing until he does something in college. When one of these kids is a lottery pick then we can compare them with POB in terms of impact.

I have always wondered why this is so important to many BU faithful?

Well Houstontxbrave, I am fairly new to this board, but we have gone round and round about Matt Roth in the past. And to be honest, I agree with you. Unless we are talking about an extremely gifted local athlete, I want the best basketball player possible for BU regardless of his residence.

Agreed 100%. Most BU fans want the best team and players possible, regardless of where they're from. I think the reason some folks were on the 'local' player kick was because of the plethera of talent in Central Illinois in the mid-90's that BU seemingly didn't make their best effort at recruiting. Couple that with the waning success BU began having, and you've got a sizeable group of fans wanting the local talent to take us back to glory. It's kind of ironic that people began feeling this way, because BU's best teams traditionally have had players from all parts of the country, and some of BU's worst teams were full of local players (see the end of the Albeck era). I am all about kids staying local and becoming stars, but I also think it's very healthy for the program to get out nationally and show people what BU and Peoria is all about. :)

I guess I meant with all the great talent coming out the Peoria area in the last 10 years it's good to get our share and hopefully keep more of them coming to the program. I would never not want to recruit nationally. Dick Versace and Jim Les have done a great job bringing great talent to the Hilltop from all over.
As far as POB is concerned, I don't think he was recruited that heavily, so you have to give Jim and his staff credit for recognizing what a talent he was.
