McDermott interview

It's all on the coach, not the players....or so I've been told.

Losses are all on the players. Wins are all on the coach. Correct?

But that can't be possible since the coach brought in the players and prepares the players in practice.

I'm confused. Is anyone to blame? Does anyone deserve credit?

Let's give everyone a trophy. Hooray!

Ultimately, both good and bad, the buck stops with the head coach. I know coaches like to say "blame the coach for the loss and credit the players for the win" but it always does come back to the coach. He's the guy who recruited, trained, and managed the "organization".

Suck It Up McDermott!

Here is part of Dave Reynolds story on the situation. The rest is on the PJ Star web site.

Cross met with Missouri Valley Conference commissioner Doug Elgin and Creighton athletics director Bruce Rasmussen in a conference phone call Tuesday morning to discuss the situation.
Cross said both of the officials agreed shifting the start time was the best option.
But Creighton coach Greg McDermott said he was not consulted and was unhappy with the decision. He said it disrupted his team’s game-day routine.
“We find out at 9 o’clock that the game we thought was starting at 7 is starting at 3,” McDermott said. “There’s bad weather all over the Midwest and there’s one game that was moved forward on game day. Some were postponed.
“The communication to us was ridiculous. Game day is about a routine. We were not allowed to have a routine today. I’m very disappointed how it was handled.”
Bradley coach Jim Les agreed that his team’s pregame routine was altered as well.
“Our kids had class until noon and were scrambling to get in our shoot*around and pregame meal,” he said. “I thought it was advantage road team.
McDermott suggested the Valley office come up with a policy covering such situations.

i promise that this was all BU's decision and that if check the rules this is true, and if you still don't believe it, call the Valley office.

(which I have deleted to save space/time)

It may have been BU's AD making a suggestion to the "powers-that-be" in the MVC, but it was NOT "all BU's decision".

So should Reynolds call the Valley office? Better yet, let's get KW in on this. He's the real villian behind anything Bradley does is wrong and MUST be a conspiracy and BU's/Jim Les' fault.

The only thing I ever said about this entire situation was that McDermott was not happy about the change. I said it because I saw the interview after the game. Not quite sure why you included me in your conspiracy theory.

Man, we win one game and we're back to ripping other teams, programs and coaches.

"we"????
that is a link to the guys who are Creighton Bluejay fans...the very guys who run their fan site and message board...it is not "we"..

Here's a bit more of what they say about Dana Altman -- who gave Creighton plenty of good years!!
Note how they excuse their current coach and blame all their problems on Altman, then he poitns to how Altman is doing at Oregon and uses the exact opposite approach....blaming Dana's performance there on HIM!

"Frustration is not in short supply

Nobody is happy in Bluejay land right now. When you lose to a team that had lost their previous 11 games..

The performance by Creighton .. Tuesday afternoon was disgusting and embarrassing.

I think it would be wise for all of us who follow Creighton basketball to remember why there is a new leader of the program
While I'm not trying to make excuses for the current state of the Jays, Dana Altman deciding to leave Creighton
after he told us all he would retire in Omaha forced this transitional period. Coach Altman told us all a lie and he left the Omaha
without so much as an apology for not telling the truth.

I have withheld bringing up Coach Altman's departure to Oregon for a while because I understood why he was leaving the Jays,
just look at the roster mess he left behind. In addition to that, even I felt like it was the right time for some new blood after 16 seasons with Dana.
..I think it's important to point out that he wouldn't have been given the job if Altman had held to his word.

Coach McDermott was handed a group of underachieving players who do not know how to compete.
No amount of practice time or coaching will change that fact. Heck, the wing players cannot pass the ball into the post
The most ill picked MVC Preseason Player of the Year ever disappears for long stretches in most games and would rather shoot threes than rebound.

We all saw this dive coming though. I'll never forget being in Sundeckers last year during the Missouri Valley Tournament listening to former player after player
question the heart and will of the guys wearing their old uniforms. Almost to a man, they also questioned their former head coach and wondered if it was time for him to move on.

At Oregon however, Coach Altman isn't setting the world on fire after replacing the fired Ernie Kent. .."

There's been more than that post. That's the ones I referred to. Really just kidding with my post, but it rang true also.

After reading more about the change in time it sounds to me like Mc D should have a bigger beef with HIS AD then BU.

His AD agreed to it.....perhaps he could have called McD and said...hey they want to move the game up to 3. Should I agree or say no?

Ding ding ding, and honestly it was more of an inconvenience for the BU players, who were in class until noon. At least Creighton was just laying around in the hotel no doing anything... If I were McDermott I would be happy the game got moved up, less time for distractions and i know they are Div. I athletes but they are still kids and could do something stupid with nothing to do and a whole lot of time to do it in...

And we think we have a fickle fan base..........

I'd love to have experienced Creighton's last 10 years. Shoot, I'd be happy to have their W/L record right now. That's how sad this has gotten......I'm dreaming of a .500 record.
