Men's basketball open scrimmage event, Sat, Oct. 5

Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct 5 is the Men's Basketball Open Scrimmage & Alumni Event at Renaissance Coliseum, Presented by Dac's Smokehouse.
It is an event in conjunction with Bradley Homecoming Weekend.
Team scrimmage is from 11 a.m. to noon and alumni-coaching staff scrimmage from noon to 1 p.m.
Doors open at 10 a.m. and free for all fans to attend.

I am guessing food & drink will be available. Does anyone know for sure?

It will be the first chance for fans to see the 2019-20 team in action, and fans will be very impressed by some of the new players.
Ari Boya is still on a crutch and will not play following a minor surgical procedure a few weeks ago. And Rienk mast will also not play as he recovers from his left knee ACL surgical repair. Everyone else is healthy.

I went and tried Dac's shortly after I saw they were sponsoring things on campus. I would say it's a tad bit expensive. The meat was good. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw. All in all I would eat it again.

I expect it to come down to a perimeter game, and Coach Wardle can still shoot the rock pretty well (along with DRuff & Jeremy). So I'll go with the White.

Here is my summary and observations of the event (I invite others to post their impressions, too).
I thought attendance was a bit disappointing, only a few hundred fans. Doors opened at 10 am, and I arrived at about 10:30 am. The team was in midst of an unannounced practice session from 10-11 am that the early-arriving fans were able to watch. At 11 am, the practice ended and the players were divided into 2 teams for the scrimmage. It was not a simple scrimmage, but rather a series of short scrimmage sessions with different structured purposes. The first scrimmage used a 17-second shot clock and a short 4 minute time clock. It was more like a drill for each side to see if they could score with no more than one or two passes and taking the first good shot. Subsequent scrimmage drills used different length shot clocks and total time, and seemed to focus on specific offensive and defensive things. After each short scrimmage, the scoreboard was reset and the teams were shuffled up a bit. So there is no final score or stats to report for the player scrimmages. But some players clearly impressed the fans.
Among the freshmen, Stephan Gabriel can play multiple positions inside and out, passes pretty well, rebounds well, and has a nice shot. He will get some meaningful playing time this season. Ville Tahvanainen is a lights-out shooter and a smart player. Antonio "Tonio" Thomas is much stronger physically than he was in high school, and plays a smooth point guard game. He didn't shoot much, so hard to tell much about his offensive game. The 2 walk-ons (Riley Burger & Sean Houpt) didn't show too much, and of course, Rienk Mast did not play at all.
The 3 transfers- Danya Kingsby does a bit of everything. He is 6'1", but can get up over the rim, rebounds well for a guard, dribbles and passes pretty well, and he made some outside shots. The 2 redshirt guards (McAdoo & Nolan) looked athletic and had similar all-around games, but neither took many shots.
The returning players all looked good (except Ari Boya who was on a crutch because of recent ankle surgery). Elijah Childs is a more vocal team leader, and is better than ever, if that is possible. Ditto for Darrell Brown. And Nate is the same reliable shooter and passer as before. Koch Bar looked a little more aggressive, but still had trouble at times scoring when under the basket. JaShon Henry looked a little stronger and more aggressive than last year, and took several three pointers, something the coaches apparently are encouraging.

After the player scrimmage sessions, the current players retired to the locker room, and the Bradley alumni and coaches played a scrimmage consisting of two 15 minute halves with a running clock. Both the players and the alumni/coaches scrimmages were officiated by regulation officials, but they rarely blew their whistles, and the let everyone play.

Some of the alumni who were scheduled to play were absent- Daniel Ruffin, Jeremy Crouch, Dyricus Simms-Edwards, Tony Bennett, and Marcelo Robinson were not there. Sam Singh was there, and he helped coach the White team, but he did not participate in the scrimmage.
So the teams were:
Red- David Collins, Danny Adams, Kevin Jones, DBO Julian Springer, and CPD Kristoff Kendrick, plus one of the team managers (Lucas) who was recruited as an emergency fill-in. Lucas actually looked like he has played basketball in his past. He is around 6'6" tall and had some decent skills.
White- J.J. Tauai, Brian Lavin, Phillip Gilbert, Brian Wardle, Mike Bargen, and Drew Adams.

The White team pulled out early to a big lead and the Red team never came back. White lead after the first 15 minute session by double digits, and then increased their lead to 20+ points in the second session. The final score was White 80 - Red 59. The high point totals were due to the volume of 3-point shots, and maybe a little bit due to fatigue which negated any defense they intended to play.

As I predicted above in post #4 of this thread, it very quickly turned into a perimeter game with the majority of shots being 3-pointers. There were a handful of inside buckets (David Collins is still an imposing presence under the basket), but most of the players were raining threes. Coach Wardle can still shoot! And Brian Lavin, Phil Gilbert, J.J. Tauai, Danny Adams, and even a couple of the staff members impressed with their 3-point prowess. There wasn't much defense played, and it was all in good fun. Thankfully, nobody appeared to got hurt.

I saw one recruit at the event who was there on an unofficial visit, and will post more about him later.

I just watched some highlights from twitter. From the short clip I saw Gabriel looked good. Looks like huge upside from what I saw but I didn't see him shoot the ball and bring all the intangibles.... he could be a real player.
