Message board traffic

tornado

New member
Action on college boards is a little slower this time of year, but I checked the comparative traffic on all the MVC message boards....
Please don't twist this into anything other than just a comparative analysis, but the numbers cannot be denied....
FWIW......

Here are the numbers of new threads over the past
.................ONE DAY, TWO DAYS, and SINCE JULY 1.....just for comparison (Basketball Forum)
BU ..................12, 21, 60
Creighton..........4, 6, 18
Drake...............0, 2, 6
Evansville..........they don't have a board
Illinois St..........2, 4, 14
Indiana St........0, 0, 9
Missouri St.......1, 1, 11
UNI.................2, 2, 5
SIU.................7, 11, 27
Wichita St........2, 2, 13
Valleytalk.........5, 10, 25
Illiniboard..........9, 12, 49 (Brumbaugh's board)
PJStar board .....1, 4, 18 (basketball topics only)
Billiken board......3, 4, 41 (www.Billikens.com)

The vote is in....BradleyFans.com is nearly as busy and has as much traffic as every other MVC message board put together.
And I thank & congratulate all the fine BradleyFans members, posters, and even just those who contribute to the huge numbers of page hits and posts. Thanks for making BradleyFans one of the most successful and most viewed college message boards in the entire nation!

Some message boards are filled with stuff about poker,
hot dog eating contests, and Paris Hilton news.
Thanks guys for keeping that stuff off here.

I love BradleyFans.Com. Lots of good info...some rumor, but mostly good accurate stuff with debate thrown in.

On PN, we don't have the basketball threads as much as BF does right now, but our traffic continues to be pretty stellar. During the season we average about 100K hits per day and 1200 unique visitors. At our last stats info (last Monday---so our new stats will come out tomorrow), PN averaged about 60,000 hits per day and about 2,500 unique visitors per day. I will preface that by saying that we have had a large influx of 'bots' the past few weeks, but our traffic has been pretty solid.

Have you guys checked out this website...it tells how much your site is worth? : http://www.smartpagerank.com/result.php?domain=http://www.panthernation.com

Pretty cool site.

Anyway, this site is great...keep up the good work BU fans.

PTTB-
That website you linked is completely bogus, and I have no idea where they get their data or
how current it is. But for BradleyFans, they claim we get little or no traffic. Who are they kidding?
I guarantee we are not only the busiest Valley board, we are way busier than most of the Big Ten or Big XII Rivals and scout boards.

Here-- see if you think these boards are even 1/10 as busy a BradleyFans.

Iowa Rivals - only about 20 new posts since the first of the month:
http://iowa.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=940&fid=803

Iowa State Rivals - ONLY ONE new post in the last 12 days!!!!
http://iowastate.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=916&fid=89

Missouri Rivals - only 7 new posts sine July 1
http://missouri.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=898&fid=137

Missouri Scout - Only 19 new posts since July 1
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=19#S=19&F=2887

Wisconsin Scout - only 20 new posts since July 1
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=193#S=193&F=2565

Wisconsin Rivals - this one is so slow they don't even have their own basketball board, just one for all sports, and it's all football.
http://wisconsin.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=907&fid=664

Minnesota Rivals - this one is DOA-- only 15 posts in the LAST MONTH!!!
http://minnesota.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=935&fid=202

How about Ohio State Scout....surely the OSU fans keep this one buzzing, right?
NOPE -- Ohio State Rivals is so incredibly slow they don't even dedicate a separate board for basketball
http://ohiostate.rivals.com/forum.asp

Ohio State scout has a separate basketball board, but it sure doesn't impress me.
Only 25 new posts since July 1!!!
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=145#S=145&F=3156

My guess is that "smartpage" is actually really quite DUMB, and it probably has no way to review all the pages and the hits and activity, and likely it only goes to some front page to see how many people are online there and extrapolates.

Yeah, I never claimed it had great validity! :)

Like I said before, it claims PN has little to no traffic, but the stats I see on a weekly basis disagree (and I assume that the stats that the BF admins see also greatly disagree). I think part of how they guesstimate worth is in how many links go to the site when they type in 'BradleyFans.Com' into google or yahoo. I don't know why that is beneficial to them, but that is part of their equation.

Again, I never touted it's validity, just it's 'coolness'. I had never seen a site like that before.

Any chance all us Valley websites can get together to start our own network?! :)

Good idea PTTB, I think just like the Valley tourney, and the explosion of increasing attendance,
the entire Valley and the message boards and web pages are about to take off.
Hey-- if it gets any busier, I'll have to quit my day job!!

Those are some pretty good numbers, PTTB. You have a great site. I suspect Bradley fans interest stays more centered on basketball year-round than a school like UNI that also has a huge football following.

This reminds me of when an Illini fan posted some thread about the Illini during the off-season (last Aug-Sept) since things are so s-l-o-w here in "bottom-feeder-land".

Me either, BB. . .

I want to know why the thread topic says "message board traffic", and doesn't point out any qualifiers, but has to qualify its data with adjustments and explanations

Also, it would be interesting to see the number of posts by unique users and unique IP addys

squirrel those numbers are impossible to know unless you are an administrator on each of those boards.
As you can see that certain web sites purport to know how much traffic other sites get, but they are so incredibly wrong it's laughable. In the end, just about the only thing that can be shown without argument is the actual number of posts, and number of threads...and that's what I did....not just via a snapshot, but over a day, two days, and even over the entire month to date.
I accurately HAND-COUNTED the topics and threads...and cited the exact numbers.
You are free to interpret as you wish.

I could even do it over any span you'd like, and it adds up the same....more unique, informative, and NEW basketball-related posts, threads, and topics here on BradleyFans than on almost any other message board - even the ones belonging to the BIG BOYS!

If your implication is that lots of the different posters are actually the same person, then I can tell you that assumption is completely wrong.
Even the posters like Dan Poneman, DUBulldog, PTTB, LincolnJay, scout 4126, Ciepierball, and freshjive (all of whom run their own internet basketball websites) have all come onto this board and stated how impressed they are with the wide range of informative posts from so many different users.

**actually there was a certain poster who did use multiple screen names in an effort to fool people, but we all knew who he was, and I am sure you know who i am talking about, too, as he is a sporadically active poster elsewhere.

Just pointing out the adjustments you made to fixed data, when not applying the same criteria to all subjects, and therefore the data can't be taken seriously.

Not implying anything, I am merely pointing out that it would interesting to see that data, and apply it to all sources. Obviously, I know that's not possible. Furthermore, page views are just as important. Most reasonable people understand that plays a part in "traffic" too.

Also, as you pointed out, it is an offseason, and the data you chose included a holiday week where most people were out enjoying life, and therefore the samples are not representative.

What are you talking about?
How can it not be equally applied....I simply counted the basketball topics and threads...exact counts....

And I used the exact same criteria on each message board I counted....I went there, pulled up the basketball posts and counted them one by one...going back one day, then two days, then all the way to July 1st.
It's easy to do as virtually all those message boards actually do the whole thing FOR YOU

Here on BradleyFans....look at the bottom of the page when it displays the topics, and it allows you to view the posts from just the past day, week, etc...
See...the message board computers actually do most of the counts for you.
All I did was eliminate the posts that had NOTHING to do with basketball like the ones on poker and Paris Hilton!

Again...the data is absolutely as accurate as anyone can make it, and I posted my counts for anyone who wants to agree/disagree/or opine, and even qualified it with the age-old "FWIW" just so nobody thinks I am trying to cram my opinions down anyone throat!
.......But if it shows some message boards as being pretty much dead, and no interesting discussion about basketball, then don't take it personally.

T......I'd like to point out that while it's true that there are very few posts on the FREE Rivals.com boards for those schools, there is a tremendous amount of activity on the "premium" boards. I'm guessing the same is true for schools like Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc.

There are also other boards for both of those schools, including www.hawkeyenation.com and www.cyclonefanatic.com. I only recently discovered cyclonefanatic.com, and there is a lot of basketball discussion there on a regular basis.

I'm not trying to discount Bradleyfans.com at all, I really enjoy the discussion....just pointing out that some of these other schools do have busier boards than you might realize.

I'll be out of state for 2 months after this morning, without a computer. I know I'll miss this board more than anything else. I will have a lot of catching up to do and hopefully some great recruiting news, if it can be any better. Keep up the good work everybody.

Safe travels, Chico ... just think how much fun stuff there will be to read when you get back!
