Mid-Major Top 25 is Released

Collegeinsider.com also has their Preseason Mid-Major All Americans...

NO BU players, but a Josh Mayo, Eric Maynor, and Osiris Eldridge on the list.

You say that as if you think a BU player should be on the list. The list may not be right about all the players, but they are right by not including any current BU player. Do we have a player as good as Mayo, Maynor or Eldridge? Answer: I wish we did. Sorry, but that is my opinion.

I think we should stop acting like we're entitled to endless de facto admiration by the larger basketball community when we've lost our two top players and just got beat by a DIII school.

The BEST thing we can do right now is fill the stands and be ridiculous for the guys on Friday night.

Let the Braves prove they're a top 25 mid major team with tough defense and smart, efficient execution.

I was referring directly to two comments on this thread (those of stloubrave and braves12), specifically, but it's a general assessment of the attitude of a great many posters whenever a poll is released or a story appears in the PJ Star...

I think it points to an unfounded cockiness that needs to get proven on the floor. If we get picked high, great... But if we don't, it's because a lot of people 'in the know', like the coaches in this poll, are looking for something else or are emotionally unattached enough to make an unbiased call. Granted, they might be wrong (I hope they are), and Bradley deserves respect since we've got tremendous tradition and a solid program, good recruiting, etc... But I'm tired of this attitude of entitlement and general inability to take criticism from national or local media.

Don't get me wrong, I live and die with Bradley basketball. In fact, I should probably seek counseling.. but I think we should take KW and these polls in stride and just support our guys so that they can prove everyone wrong.

What comment is it that you are talking about exactly?

Because we were picked directly ahead of UNI, a team who has lost plenty of talent and didn't finish well last year even w/ that talent...and a team that lost their PG...?

Explain to me how that isn't a legitimate comment...?

I can't believe some of the teams ranked ahead of us like Oral Roberts and American. Seriously, whats up with the voters?

If you look at the list of coaches who are the voters....one can't help but think the vast majority know little or nothing about the "mid-major" teams that are clear on the other coast.
So I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what teams are 21st and beyond...especially when they schedule nothing but 330 RPI opponents.

Anyone else notice the MWC doesn't participate in this? I think that may actually be smart on there part... It distances the from other mid-majors, and kinda rejects that label.

It is based on the fact that they have pretty high profile football programs & much more massive athletic department budgets, and so are arbitrarily not considered mid-major by these people.
There is no widely agreed upon line that can be drawn however.

Yes, so I say that and get ridiculed by an under 100 poster....

UNI got spanked pretty much from bell to bell last night and were down 15 w/ 2:00 to play only to make it look close, but hey, I don't know what I'm talking about when I question why they rank only 1 slot behind us, and thats just me and my ego getting in the way

Tell me what logic can be involved in this when: After 1 game played a team that is 0-1 can still be ranked higher than a team that is 1-0 when said 0-1 team lost at home to said 1-0 team pretty convincingly.

Now I'm no fan of Illinois ST, but how can Wright St. still be ranked ahead of the Redbirds?

When I watched that game, IMO, Wright St looked awful. They have no inside game to speak of and looked woefully slow compared to ISU's back court. I don't see how they can be ranked ahead of UIC in the Horizon. Maybe ISU is better than I thought and Wright ST will be ok, but to me, the Raiders didn't look good.

Just further proof that nobody should pay attention to these early-season polls, even the ones involving conference coaches and media.

It's almost as bad as putting too much stock into the RPI. I mean, is Mercer really the best team in the country with Evansville right behind at #4?
