Matta has been at a lot of places in his career, but he has never been connected with IU or Bloomington, Indiana. He is a native of Hoopeston, Illinois. He was a high school star in basketball and went to SIU for 1 year. He then transferred to Butler where he played for 3 years. His coaching career started as a graduate assistant in the Missouri Valley under Tates Locke at Indiana State (1990-91).
He than was an administrative assistant at Butler from 1991-94, then became a fulltime assistant at Miami of Ohio from 1994-95, Western Carolina 1995-96, Miami of Ohio again 1996-97, then Butler again 1997-2000. He was then head coach at Butler for 1 season (2000-2001), then 3 years at Xavier (2001-2004, then Ohio State 2004-.
Why would he be interested in the IU job? OSU is better than IU, and he has the best recruits in the country coming in.
Besides, I am sure he has a binding contract with Ohio State, and I can't see why they would even allow him to talk to IU.
