MLB free-agent Cliff Lee surprises everyone and signs with Phildelphia

It was thought to be a battle between Texas and the NY Yankees, but last night Cliff Lee decided he will sign with the Philadelphi Phillies.

The Phillies deal is reported to be about $120 million for 5 years. He spurned deals from the Rangers and Yankees that were for as much as $170 million for 7 years.

There are now rumors emerging that Cliff Lee might have spurned the Yankees and signed with the Philadelphia Phillies partly because of the way his wife was harassed by Yankee fans at Yankee Stadium in October when the Lee's team, the Texas Rangers, eliminated the Yankees from the AL playoffs.

I have been to baseball games at Yankee Stadium, and in Philadelphia as well as in most MLB cities. From my experience, Philadelphia fans are about the worst and most obnoxious fans anywhere. Yankee fans are not far behind, but if Cliff Lee doesn't perform well for the Phillies, he'll see his own fans turn on him and his wife in an instant. Good luck, Cliff.
