Momma always told me....

a loss to #221 in RPI=on our way to Thursday night and hopefully a warmer seat for our coach. His lifetime pass is in danger of being revoked.

I agree with this.

Sorry, guys, but this isn't even close to being right.
This team is playing without their best player, and 2 more potential starters are out.

let me just say this then

I don't think Coach Les' "lifetime pass" (as IF he ever had one) is in jeopardy.

The bandwagon bus for "Fire Jim Les" has been open for boarding since the day he was hired -

Has the MVC season started yet?

At this point, you can probably go out and bet what will happen and probably be 95% accurate in us going from 6-12 to 8-10 at the best....

You can make a lot of money betting our futility this season....

Just make sure if we're on the road you bet the over:roll:

How many moving screens do we get called for every game? Why do we not have a consisent 40 minute effort?

I though DC had set good screens the last game out. Not sure why we went in reverse with the progression other than maybe we were feeling "pressed" as a team to make a play and feeling rushed. Maybe I'm wrong.

As for the 40 minute effort thing. I have felt the same. But I have seen MANY teams plagued with the same problem.

They weren't good screens....and were mostly illegal...

The officials just weren't blowing the whistle for them....

They missed some calls in the SEMO game....evident by the missed elbow thrown at Sam 2 ft from an official.

Having said all of that I still hold out hope that with Wilkins eventually becoming eligible and AW hopefully coming back to play we can still have a successful season.

I will be pleasantly surprised if either of these two things happen.

I think we have to play the hand we have been delt. We need SS, Theron, and SM to step up...the freshmen to keep learning, and for somebody to learn how to shoot. I haven't thrown in the towel yet, but something has to change soon.

DaCoach, I agree that Les is likely to get a pass for whatever happens this season due to the injury issues. However, the poor defense showed up before two of those potential starters got injured. It's been a persistent problem, and I thought our "identity was supposed to start on the defensive end." Yeah, UWM might have been shooting incredible against us. So have a lot of teams this season though.

You're wrong. I saw DC set screens that didn't hit anybody cause they moved around him but at least he set them and stayed long enough to not get called for moving (except for the one time he kinda moved/threw the leg out) .

You can't keep using it as a crutch Coach. despite one sweet run 3 years ago, he hsdn't gotten us above a 4th place finish in 7 seasons. Good coaches make progress with the players they have, even after injuries. Jim is just not proving himself capable of doing this. You said they shot the lights out in 1st half. How about getting a hand in number 0's face after the first 3 3's he made??? Instead, he hits five in the 1st half. Inexcuable bad defense. 19 points in a half!!! Or how about a 300 pound kid who takes it to the hole blowing Roberts' doors off??? How does a 300 pound kid do that? BAD DDD!!!! And who is your 3rd starter who is out? Singh is not a starter if Egolf is. Stop making excuses for this team.

Our guards need to learn to "set up the screen" a little better also. Wait for the screener to get set before bringing your man into the screen.

Can I also say that we dribble the ball WAY too much as well?

The "good" teams can move the ball 3-5 times w/in an offense w/o even letting the ball touch the floor...

I agree. Well said by an obvious knowledgable college hoops observer.

Then after you set it up, you have to use it correctly, if you don't get shoulder to shoulder with your screen, your defender will slide right over the top of the screen.

I think this is a lot of the problem with our screening issues. The big guys can see that it won't be effective and try to make it effective by throwing a hip into it or stepping toward the guard to help him out. Tweet! Moving screen.

Watching Richmond and Wake Forest last night - I saw a TON of "me-ball". Too much dribbling and not enough passing - from both teams. Isn't Wake Forest a "good team"?

Right - but you watch a lot of teams and many do it without getting called for it. I think the key is to do it at the right time. We don't. No really... we set moving screens too obvious to be ignored. We need to set them so far away from the "motion" of the "motion-offense" it isn't noticed cause everyone is watching the ball. We "Ball-Screen" too much. We need to set multiple screens on-going. That's a "motion-offense" to me. We need to set 'moving-screens' way in advance of the ball. They get noticed less, it takes more passes to get to the open shooter... but when all is said and done... he's wide freakin open from wherever he is at.

The only two players that I know we're going to get something out of are DD and TW. Keep them on the floor because they really don't tire out. AT can't do much worst than DC, go ahead and test him out. CR and TB are inconsistent but always gives effort, especially on the boards but JL needs to limit their roles offensively and (like many others) make them play D. EM has been solid as well but his youth shows plenty. SM needs to sit down until he can learn what a team concept is. DN is inconsistent but has a chance to be a key player for us.

You watch enough ACC ball you'll see that from every team including rule differentiation from the officials...

You should already know by now that ACC is the pre-NBA league...

and that "me" ball got Richmond beat by Bradley did it not while we played a more team concept...

It doesn't matter how great a player you are, 1-on-5 will never be as good as 5-on-5 and the teams that play good "team" ball will usually always beat the street ballers...especially if the talent is close.

I watch a lot of college basketball....and no place do more high screen get called as fouls than in games involving Missouri Valley teams....and more touch-fouls, and soft-contact in the lane get called as fouls.
This exact same stuff and even harder contact go on all the time in the Big Ten & elsewhere, and yet nothing called.
It must be part of the overall plan in this league to do this so as to discourage any decent big man from ever wanting to play in the MVC!

And I agree that Chris Roberts should not be shooting 3-pointers while guarded early in the shot clock.
