MVC Awards (2025-26)

Usually the MVC releases the all-bench and most-improved teams on the Tuesday afternoon before the tournament. Then the rest of the awards come Weds.

I'm ahead of those this time and sharing my choices:

My MVC Awards: All-Bench & Most-Improved Players

(Note: My choices are mine from watching across the league this season, not necessarily what the league official voters will do. The most-improved has become a bit of a weird stat now because there are so many new players and for me, it should only go to most improved in the Valley because comparing to what guys did in other conferences or even divisions doesn't seem fair to do. Ex: Ian Scott wasn't even a division one player. Will voters include him because he is definitely an all-conference player? Maybe, but he wasn't in the Valley so I left him and a few others like him off my list.)

Well laid out argument. IMO, it is a no-brainer that Jaquan deserves the POY award for all the areas he excels in. However, we know that many of the voters will pick the top guy on the 1st place team. And despite Jaquan having better numbers in virtually every area, and actually playing good defense, Lundblade will probably win the award. I hope I am wrong.

For purely selfish reasons as a fan this year, I'd much rather Jaquon win Arch Madness Tournament MVP than MVC POY.;)
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Remember when DB Jr. got snubbed from 1st Team All MVC in 2019-2020? He used that as ammo and led the Braves to getting the b2b Arch Madness title!

The MVC website does not appear to have the full All-Bench and Most Improved Teams posted.
Here is the link they posted, but it directs to a dead end as of now- https://bit.ly/408CdT7

But Bradley has already announced that Jaquan Johnson is the Team Captain of the Most Improved Team. And Montana Wheeler is a member of the All Bench Team. Roman Doman was named team captain of the All-Bench Team.
Hopefully this means Montana is an All-Freshman as well!

Cobbling this together, it seems like the list is:

Most Improved
Bully (Bradley) *
Will Hornseth (UNI)
Rolyns Aligbe (SIU)
Drew Scharnowski (Belmont)
Justus McNair (Valpo)

All Bench
Roman Domon (Murray State) *
Brigham Rogers (Belmont)
Jack Smiley (Belmont)
Montana Wheeler (Bradley)
Justus McNair (Valpo)

Maybe the conference can get its act together and fix its PDF.

Thanks for digging that up. I figured the MVC probably put those out on their social media platforms, but I haven't had the time to look for them, except for the two Bradley picks.

The Missouri Valley Conference will release its all-Valley first, second and third teams, Player of the Year and other awards on Wednesday.

2026 MVC All Conference Awards-

PDF release- https://mvc-sports.com/documents/2026/3/3//2026_MVC_All_Conference_Release.pdf?id=5350

Player of the Year- Tyler Lundblade (Belmont)
Coach of the Year- Casey Alexander (Belmont)
Newcomer of the Year- Fred King (Murray State)

Full All Conference Teams- I can't really differ with any of the picks, but I am disappointed that Montana Wheeler didn't make the All-Freshman Team.
And why did they appear to downplay the Defensive Player of the Year Award this year? It is mentioned in the paragraph under Jaquan's Most Improved Team Captain photo, but in the MVC's article, the All-Defense Team list does not designate Jaquan as the team captain (with an asterisk), and there is not photo recognizing him for his defensive skills.

Well I wanted JJ to get at least those other 3 awards, but it's a shame that they didn't hype the Defensive POY.
When Loyola's Lucas Williamson got it in b2b seasons, it was a BIG deal!
The Defensive POY award IMO is the 2nd most honorable award behind Bird POY.

I agree, LB. Here is last year's (2025) announcement article for the postseason awards. Notice Connor Turnbull is listed as the Defensive MVP right near the top of the article in bold type, not far from the top headline. That was completely missing from this year's awards article. And then just a short scroll down under the Coach of the Year paragraph is a great photo and paragraph of Turnbull with an nice photo appropriately honoring his DPOY accomplishment (also something the MVC omitted this year with Jaquan)-
