SATURDAY

Drake travels out west to play St. Mary's....
The Gaels have come out of relative obscurity and are one of the best midmajor teams in the nation now...although their tiny on-campus arena looks like a high school gym from a bygone era. Seating capacity is just over 3000.

Here's a story on one of Drake's transfer players who got totally screwed by NCAA and denied a waiver to play.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...josh-smiths-waiver-leads-to-endless-questions

Tennessee State plays at Wichita, but TSU is terrible. They are 0-3 and mostly been blown out - and they seem to have trouble scoring even 50 points a game.
This one should be a laugher for the Shockers.

Tulsa visits Missouri State - Tulsa was thought to be decent this year but they lost their opener to cross-town rival Oral Roberts.

Saint Louis visits SIU - this should be interesting, SIU's game notes even refer to themselves as "Transfer U" - not because of players transferring IN - but because of the number of players transferring OUT (Wood, Booker, Dillard, Teague, Setty, Daniels, etc..)

UNI visits George Mason - UNI was picked to finish 3rd in the MVC but they have yet to regiater a win over a D-I opponent.
In very un-UNI-like fashion, the Panthers are shooting only 34% from the arc this year.

Loyola is at Tulane - it's the first time they have played in Louisiana since 1984. Tulane is 2-0, Loyola is shooting 49% from 3-pt range.
...Back on the home front, Loyola is doing terribly with attendance, 2247 thus far and about 1000 for their exhib. Also noted - cross town rival UIC is likewise doing horribly with attendance - they drew barely over 1000 paid for their home game with Roosevelt - but half were no-shows. It was said to be their smallest crowd in their D-I existence (since 1981)

SUNDAY

Bradley plays at Illinois - available via streaming on the Big Ten network web site. The Big Ten TV Network has a women's basketball game at noon, then at 5PM shows Stony Brook at Indiana.

ISU plays at Northwestern - will be streamed via Big Ten Network online. ISU is 0-2 and remember - there were a few people who picked them higher than Bradley this season.

Indiana State plays at #21 Notre Dame - the Sycamores have never beaten Notre Dame

Wichita State looks like they have some weaknesses...they trailed Tennessee State at half but pulled away - final 85-71
They got really nice production off the bench (31 points) so that their starters didn't have to carry such a heavy load...

ouch - Loyola was only 4-22 from the arc, Milton Doyle was just 2-13 form the floor
and UNI is behind by one with 11 to go at George Mason

In other local scores - UIC losing to EIU 63-54 with less than 7 minutes to go, DePaul wins 81-72 over Wright State with Tommy Hamilton getting 13pts, 5 reb

MVC expansion candidate UIC was back within single digits, then EIU put a run on them and is blowing UIC out in their own building...
final is 86-66 and fans there are not happy - this is EIU blowing them out on their home floor - but they just extended their coach for 3 more years.

UNI still hasn't beaten a D-I opponent as they lose to George Mason 76-70
..only 5 players for UNI scored from the field,

The ugly game of the week - Ohio State at Marquette - both teams shot horribly, but Marquette shot far more horribly..
Marquette was just 10-53 (18.9%) and only 1-18 from the arc...
Final score Ohio State 52 - Marquette 35! - can't blame the refs for this one

SIU loses to Saint Louis 72-67, Drake getting beat 16-6 at St. Mary's...
looks like the MVC will go 2-4 today and their overall record will be 17-9

Drake fought back and between their two 5-9 guards Karl Madison & Richard Carter throwing up some threes - the final score was 67-63.

Marquette again has serious trouble scoring - gives up most of a 16 pts lead and has a serious scare thrown into them by New Hampshire

Northern Iowa has already played and they beat Loyola Marymount in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands
Final score was 90-81 - and UNI had a 17 pt halftime lead and their largest lead was 23 pts - but they let much of it slip away - down to 6 pts - before pulling away.

They had a game in the 1st half like what they usually put up on us - hitting 10-14 from the arc.
UNI also got to the FT line 39 times compared to 21 for LMU.

Ka'Darryl Bell's high school teammate Gabe Levin had a fine game - 10 pts & 14 rebounds!

the attendance was pretty small -

Ka'Darryl Bell's high school teammate Gabe Levin - despite being passed on by almost everyone - is having a tremendous freshman year!

He is averaging 10 rebounds per game - among the leaders nationally not just among FRESHMEN - but among all players.

Loyola Marymount is about the only offer he got - and he's proving a lot of people wrong,
LMU is off to a good start - and Gabe Levin is starting, playing good minutes, and averaging 13 ppg, 10 rpg

I guess I missed this one...

ISU had another court-storming --
They beat a marginally ranked #25 team and storm the court - seriously - stop acting like a low-major team!

But then ISU does have one of the all time record laughable cases for storming the court in a game between teams locked in a 9-10th place tie...

Wow, actually students at a game. After getting beat by UIPUI, our student, I mean students, should storm the court after any win.

all of our students who made it to the last game downtown do a great job..
in fact BOTH of them were the clear winners on the "Dance-Cam"

What we could use is a student "leader" to emerge to energize the students and organize them to get back to the games. A few years ago we had BUConnerD, and others before him who helped generate enthusiasm. Can anyone step up now? Is there a "Braveheart" among the students?
Tuesday is not semester break yet, so we should get students out.
