I thought there might be a chance Connor would lose out to Belmont forward Malik Dia. He is a sophomore who transferred from Vanderbilt, where he averaged only 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds last season as a freshman. He has been having a terrific season, and is leading Belmont with 18.1 ppg and 5.7 rpg. Like Connor, Dia had 2 great games last week for Belmont with 25 points at SIU last Tuesday and 32 points in a win over Drake Sunday. Belmont lost the game at SIU, which might have made the difference. Dia was named the Newcomer of the Week yesterday.
Connor Hickman becomes the first Bradley player to be named to any of the three weekly MVC awards this season (Player of the Week, Newcomer of the Week, Freshman of the Week).
Last season, despite Bradley having the best MVC record and winning the MVC title, the only weekly award won by any Bradley player was Duke Deen, who was named Newcomer of the Week in the December 27, 2022 (week 7) Weekly Awards.

The MVC Player of the Week for the week ending today, Jan. 29, has not been announced yet, but it won't be anyone from Bradley. Duke Deen had a spectacular game Saturday with 31 points, but it was in a loss, and that seems to usually reduce a player's chances of being considered. Plus Duke only had 13 points in the other game last week against Murray State.
My bet would be on Alston Mason of Missouri State. He scored 36 points in leading Missouri State to an overtime win against Drake, then he had 22 points in a win at Valparaiso.
Isaiah Swope, Robbie Avila, and Jayson Kent all had great games in 2 wins for Indiana State last week, Xavier Johnson had a couple good games in SIU's two wins (27 & 16), and Tucker DeVries had 18 and 29 points in Drakes two games, however, one was the loss at MSU.
