IMO the POY this year has to be Odiakosa. Shrek was a shoe-in until he blew it (literally, he blew above the legal limit:lol: )
and as I said, check the play-by-play for yourself, OE has a lot of late game turnovers, fouls, and basically nothing but bad shots and plenty of misses...I didn't see many screens, deflections, or rebounds mentioned anywhere...
those are qualities of unselfish players and we're not seeing or hearing too many observers use those terms with OE.
I only asked if you found rebounds, steals, and deflections.
I don't care if he wins the award or not. Im not an ISU fan.
But I do think those things are important.
of course I have neither said that nor hinted that, and have offered essentially well researched facts and stats....not just biased insults as some are prone to..
I'll give credit to OE for good defense at the end of the BU-ISU game, but why has has he not been playing good defense in the rest of ISU's games? In every ISU game I've seen, his defense this season has been lousy.
BTW, King-O scored only 7 points on 3-12 shooting in that game, with 1 rebound.
Yet when I asked about rebounds and defense, you said that POY voters don't use either of those stats. Is that a fact?
so you think the guys who vote on POY check the guy's deflections??
I said nothing about the people who vote on POY and rebounds or defense...those were not my words..
even so - you've produced nothing to even show a single rebound or stat of any kind - but I have said there were no mentions of deflections anywhere in the play-by-play and not even many rebounds...so go check and decide for yourself..
so you think the guys who vote on POY check the guy's deflections??
How many rebounds, assists, steals, or deflections did he have in the final minutes of those games?
Also, how many of ISU's games were under 10 points at the end?
Those might be things to look for.
the stats on deflections are extremely hard if not impossible to find let alone know-
thus the POY voters are not likely to know them..
that's all...I think you read wayyyy too much as "insinuating"
I think Lloyd Phillips has been neck and neck with Dinma as ISU's MVP this season
I know many coaches, including Bradley's staff track deflections. I also know steals and rebounds are important too.
The irony of the Osiris down year is that at the beginning of the year everyone thought ISU would be hurting next year because of the losss of Osiris. It looks like Dinma may be the biggest loss. If the Carmichael kid can jump in where Dinma had left off...ISU could be better than this year. I'm starting to believe losing Osiris next year wont be a big deal for the guys in Normal!
Not saying ISU will be better next year but didn't many people say the same thing after losing Slack, Boo, and Dom Johnson 2 years ago? ISU did ok last year with those guys...
And the non-conference schedule may not have helped their early season but they have jelled quite a bit recently, winning two tough road games, one to complete a sweep of your braves :wink:
Not defending the terrible schedule at all- just pointing out facts ;-)
I agree, if ISU is better next year than this year, Jankovice will be COY.
It's hard to find a team in the MVC that will lose more than ISU does after this season. The lose their top 3 scorers, 3 starters who lead the team in minutes played, and they will return nobody scoring more than 7 ppg. Alex Rubin will be the only player returning who shoots better than 30% from three (he's 38.8%, but with OE gone, I doubt he gets as many open shots). They also lose their top rebounder, and their top 2 assist guys.
It's sometimes possible to overcome major losses like those by scheduling down in the non-conference. The problem with that is that they can't schedule any weaker than they did this year.
Illinois State's non-conference Strength of Schedule this year ranks 347th out of 347 D1 schools- the absolute worst in the country!
