MVC schedule this week (Dec. 7-14)

SIU pastes UT Martin tonight by 29.

Dawgs shoot 57% from the floor. I will go back and watch some of this one, but certainly this makes you feel a little worse about losing to the Skyhawks.

SIU made 5 3 pointers. They do not have great outside shooters so they mostly drive to the basket and make short shots. We have come a long way defensively since we played UT Martin but it makes you scratch your head when you look at this final score.

Yes, that appears to be the biggest difference. Against Bradley, UT-Martin shot terrific, 56% overall (28-50), and 46% from three (11-24). Against SIU they shot 34% (19-56) overall and 25% (8-32) from three. They only average shooting a rather poor 31.5% from three for the season.
And unlike Bradley, who had their worst shooting game this season (33% FG%, and 15%from three), SIU had perhaps their best shooting night (57% overall, and 38% from three).
SIU is actually one of the worst 3-point teams in the country. They came into last night's game shooting just 27.3% from three for the season, ranking 355th out of 365 teams.

One thing I noticed recently is that if you throw out the non-Div. I games (which I think is completely fair to do), the Valley actually has four of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the country:

(365 teams in Div I)
SIU (322) - 28.4%
UIC (336) - 27.8%
Indiana State (343) - 27.4%
Evansville (346) - 27.2%

The Salukis are smart because they know they are awful at threes, so they only shoot 27% of their shots from beyond the arc. The other three teams shoot anywhere between 36 and 47 percent of their shots from distance.
